I recently received a request from the ATA's Hot Spot Coordinator to share the below information with members of our Forum/APS Chapter.
HOT SPOT FLASH ! ! !
The next ATA Hot Spot Show, BALPEX 2019, is only two weeks away! The show will be held at the Baltimore Hunt Valley Inn, 245 Shawan Road, Hunt Valley, MD from August 30th through September 1st. Admission and parking are free.
Of special interest to topical collectors will be the Saturday presentation by ATA President Dawn Hamman, “Who Would Love Topical Collecting? You!” Following this, we’ll gather for lunch in the hotel restaurant. Later in the afternoon, two more topical presentations are on the schedule – “A History of American Music” by Doug Hadley, and “Challenges and Rewards of an Aviation Topical Collector” by Gerry Frazier.
BALPEX will have three featured Hot Spot Dealers. The first, Geezer’s Tweezers, will be bringing a large stock organized by topicals. He’s a local dealer known for his reasonable prices, so this is your chance to expand your collection.
Weisz Stamps and Covers, a postal history dealer, will have with him advertising covers of special interest to topical collectors. If your collection has been limited to stamps, you’ll want to take a look at his stock and think about adding covers to your collection.
As an auction company, our 3rd Hot Spot Dealer, Dutch Country Auctions, has access to a wide variety of topical material at good prices. He will also be buying and accepting collections on consignment, so this is an opportunity to move those abandoned collections filling up your stamp room.
Besides our three Hot Spot Dealers, BALPEX will have 22 additional dealers with a wide selection of worldwide stamps, covers, box lots and collections.
BALPEX will have over 1200 pages of exhibits and 78 frames, all competing for a chance to participate in the World Series of Philately next August. For the first time, BALPEX has included an Open “Free Style” class and a “One of My Favorites” class. Some unusual exhibits are in store for us.
So plan to join us for learning, lunch, and fellowship with other topical enthusiasts. Look for the Hot Spot Logo. Hope to see you there!
