What is a good overall book dealing with the US Washington-Franklin issues of the early 20th century? I’m looking for something that will not only help to identify the various issues, but also goes into the history of their development, use, ete.

What I collect: If I have a catalogue for it, I collect it. And I have many catalogues ....

I have a copy of Martin A. Armstrong's book entitled "Washington-Franklins 1908-1921". My copy is a second edition with 224 pages - according to Amazon (my image source), the first edition had only 118 pages, so I think if you were to search for this book, you would want to make sure you get the extra info which comes in the 2nd edition. And I would think you wouldn't want to buy it from an Amazon seller - copies there ranged from $95 to $861!!! Judging by his Wikipedia page, Mr. Armstrong has led a somewhat more exciting life than I would wish for .... Ryan

Ryan, Maybe he should have just stuck to legally selling stamps and coins and stayed away from the markets. He has another book, The United States Definitive Series 1922-1938, that is on my to-get list. I was unaware of the Washington-Franklin book, though.
