The year date on these dials seem to show the most wear.

Fun topic! Here are a couple recent arrivals in my mailbox that I think bear the kind of steel die machine cancels you’re talking about. Both dies look like they’ve seen better days. As best I can decipher them, they read: NORTH TEXAS PDC 750 / 01 AUG 2023 WENATCHEE WA 988 / 09 AUG 2023 (The year isn’t quite visible on the second one, but I can vouch for its having been sent within the past month.)

swvl good additions to this thread. When I receive an example with an unclear year I write the year in pencil beneath the dater.

Yesterday my wife received a PPC from a friend who is on vacation in Georgetown Maine. I am unable to determine the city of origin of the postmark. I checked the Maine mail processing centers and found two listed, Scarborough and Hampden which don't match any letters. Besides, I don't think such centers would have these machines still in service. If someone with better eyes and searching abilities can identify this, I would certainly appreciate it. Looks like this machine either needs a good cleaning or final rites.

JeffS , Given the length of the post office name and the Maine zip code that appears to be 04074, I believe the postmark was applied at the Southern Maine Carrier Unit Post Office.

Looks like one of these machines is still in use in Syracuse, New York. The ZIP code is illegible to me, but the date is Dec 18, 2023.
