I see there's a 387a closing soon.Going for little under $4000 i believe the market has finally settled on this as at one time price was about twice that.I bought mine at $3500 years ago so I guess I really didn't get a great deal just O.K.

I purchased mine from Eastern Auctions the $3500 did not include gavel cost or registered shipping,That was back in the day when I had a buck to spend.I also bought quite a few vintage guitars a few of which are still with me.

Well my heirs will be happy.Unfortunately none have interest in this hobby, but they already have their guitars picked out. They well deserve those I was out every weekend playing somewhere, not to mention rehearsal during the week.

This thread needs a revival! Just got this today from the only local dealer close enough to drive to. I went by to pick up some mounts and foolishly asked if he had a Scott 103 in decent used condition. I left with this beauty and very little cash. The only Canadian commemoratives I have left to aquire are the high value jubilee issues of 1897.

Nice copy Stampgeezer! Those seem to be hard to find with decent centering without shelling out a decent stack of cash!

After a number of recent acquisitions I think it's time to update my Classic Canada presentation. Here's my first page, The Province of Canada, 1851-1864. I split the page in two, Pence/ Cents, for easier viewing. Enjoy!
The pence issues, 1851-1859. Most are labeled on the page with two exceptions. First; #2TCv the HRH Prince Albert 6d plate proof, currently holding the place of #5, the postage stamp of that design. Second; #12 the Beaver 3d perf 11.75.

Page two in my Canada collection is the Large Queens and the first Ottawa and Montreal printings (1870-1893) of the Small Queens. Again I will split the page it half for better display of the images.
The Large Queens 1868-1876, Unitrade #21-30. The Large Queens haven't been a focus of mine really, so a few of the stamps have minor faults like short perfs. I acquired most of them on the cheap to fill the spaces in my collection. I don't have any of the laid paper varieties. This is an area I may upgrade and spend some more time on in the future.
[Moderator note - image links broken and unretrievable]
The Small Queens 1870-1893 Unitrade #34-40 with an assortment of colour varieties. I haven't got these explicitly labeled as I have a hard time in determining the exact colour variety. I am pretty confident in my sorting of the first Ottawa and Montreal printings (#34-40) vs. the second Ottawa printings (#41-45) though.

Frog, that's a great spread of Large Queens! I like the last two of the 2-cent value in your row on the first page. I don't think I have seen that shade of blueish-green in real life before.

On to page three. I have tried to keep my BOBs (with the exceptions of the postage dues, perforated and overprinted officials, and semi-official airmails) close to their correct spot in the timeline. Here's the registration labels, and the second group of Small Queens.
The Registration Labels #F1 & F2, with some shade varieties. I am still looking for the elusive and expensive F3.
[Edit] Recently aquired the 8ยข registration stamp #F3. Updated the image to reflect the addition!

The second bunch of Small Queens #41-45 with a few shade varieties and the Widow's Weeds issue #46-47.

Westy, I adopted the same timeline type deal too.I also try to fit the cindys into their proper place as well.I learned that you can't spread out stamps enough.I believe my large queens were re=mounted less than five years ago and already they are crawling off the page.My modern issues I have gotten down so that only three stamps(four if se-tenant block) go on a page that way there's room for expansion be it blocks or varieties.I'll post some more of my stuff so you can see what I mean.I do like those vario pages must make it bit easier for sure.

Frog, wow, thanks I will pass along my address!!
The Vario pages have worked out well for me. I like the convenience and freedom to spread out my varieties and to be able to move things around easily. I try to plan and to spread things out as much as possible, but that doesn't mean I haven't re-shuffled my entire book a few times over. I try to use the appropriate row count/sized pages to suit the biggest stamp I need on a particular page. I've had a few instances where I'll find a stamp I need and it's bigger than I expect... then the row count goes down (conversely the row height is larger) resulting in a row of stamps without a home. Then the process starts of bumping everything to the next row until the end of the book occasionally. My pages are housed in Lighthouse Vario F sized binders, which I limit to 40 sheets per binder. My entire Canada and Provinces collection is currently in 4 binders!
cjd, I love the guide block! But, I too am partial to the Admirals! When I get to the Admiral pages in my collection I am tempted to start another thread, just inspire some Admiral specific discussion.

nickmang, are you interested in the classics? I've got a few duplicates, I could send along a little packet. I could probably scrounge up a little sampling of stuff going back to the Queen Victoria Leaf Issue (1897). Wouldn't be complete by any stretch, but I should have some of the lower denomination stuff to get you started at least. Send me a private message, let me know what your oldest stamp is. If you have a wish list of Unitrade/Scott numbers from 1897 and onward I could see what I can find.

And now page 4. The small set of Jubilees. Haven't been able to acquire any of the dollar values yet, so here's all the cents.
[Moderator note - image links broken and unretrievable]
And a handful of shade varieties. The second 3-cent in the row could (probably) just be faded, but sometimes when I look at the cancel it looks like a convincing weak strike. Let me know what you think.

rod222, each of the four stamps has some visible doubling of the overprint. What I've heard so far, and what makes sense to me, is that it is caused by some sort of "bounce" of the press, making a kiss. Double and triple surcharges are listed in Unitrade, and I've seen auctions claiming quadruple surcharges. I can agree with the definition that a double surcharge has gone through the press twice. Mine has not. If anyone has not clicked on the image, know that it will embiggen when you do...for what it's worth...makes seeing the kisses easier. Here is a close up of the top right kiss: [click to enlarge]
