I figured I'll kick off things in this section with the link to the stamp issues of 2013 from my home country I continue to be disappointed with the terrible quality of printing. What the heck!

Hi Ram,
I see that there are a lot of stamp denominations of INR 5. Is this because this is the current value to send a letter within India. i.e 5 rupees? If this is the case, then that seems a low amount for a letter delivered within your large sub-continent. With the current exchange rate this is approx. 7.6 cents US$.

No... it is not Rs.5; I believe for a normal letter (100 gm), it is Rs 25.

What I collect: If I have a catalogue for it, I collect it. And I have many catalogues ....

No... it is not Rs.5; I believe for a normal letter (100 gm), it is Rs 25. Ram. I was curious about this and I thought I needed an adventure so I went to the India Post website and found the postage calculator. 5 Rupees is in fact the correct rate for domestic letters (20 grams, anyway - I checked the 30g rate and it was higher). I'm a bit surprised that these new Indian stamps don't show the fancy new Rupee sign that came out in the past couple of years (₹). And I agree with Ram, some of those stamps aren't very accomplished in their design. Stamps like this one look like something I would come up with after my first day of working with graphic design software .... I'm surprised at how low the printing quantities are on these stamps. Only 310,000 copies of the stamp shown above, for a nation of 1.1 billion or whatever it is now. No wonder I never see Indian commemoratives in my piles of kiloware! I've been having fun looking through YouTube at some of the names on all those Indian cinema stamps. I'm a fan of Indian music, and I've been enjoying some of the stuff I'm finding - Bhanumathi is quite good! Ryan

Ryan, The problem also is that these commemorative issues hardly ever get to the local small POs; they get sold out quick at the main larger POs. Hence the shortage of postally used stuff. It is 1.2 billion of my brethren now Ram
