Issue from Algeria in 1968 on the theme of road safety. People are wielding road signs as weapons to defend themselves against a car apparently intent on eating them. A rather peculiar design choice, I would say.

Two road-safety related issues from New Caledonia. On the left, publicizing a program in which road safety fundamentals are taught in kindergarten, and on the right, illustrating the French expression "rouler à tombeau ouvert" (meaning to drive extremely fast, word-for-word to drive with an open tomb), with the mention on the stamp meaning "Prevention is best, control your speed".

An important element to road safety, in winter time, is good snow removal. This souvenir sheet from St-Pierre-et-Miquelon features various engines used for that purpose:

One of the major threats to road safety currently is drivers' attention being drawn to their phones instead of the road. Spain addressed this problem with this self-adhesive issue in 2012, part of a series on civic values. The main message is "Pay attention to your driving!" and the phone screen displays "Lose the call, not your life!".

I've posted one of these before, but here it is in FDC form, with a companion issue reminding drivers to check their side mirrors for incoming bicyclists (a common sight in the Netherlands!):

Peru, Sc. no. 377 is from a definitive set which started issuance in 1938. This 10ctvs scarlet denomination depicts a highway map of Peru. Portions of this definitive series were reprinted in 1945, 1949 and 1951, but not this denomination. It was, however, overprinted several times as you can see in my scan. Two of the three different overprinted stamps are shown below. The first overprint was in 1940 with a surcharge of 5 ctvs and the second overprint was in 1943 and is Sc. no. 406. It was overprinted one more time much much later in 1982 (not shown) and is Sc. no 758.

Found while re-arranging my Spanish stamps yesterday, this block touting civic values for children. I had missed it during my first pass through because the bottom stamp was hidden under another souvenir sheet.

I've shown this stamp before in a different context, but it thematically belongs here, as it shows the inauguration of a road building project by the Liberian president:

Seems,mass-murderer like to build roads. While Samuel Doe loved to take part in killing opponents himself and met a grisly death later, another "road-builder" let kill millions, without ever taking an active part personally:
Winterhilfswerk-postcard 1936.
