I just received a small lot of postal fiscals from a dealer. These ones are the better ones with 'postal like' cancels: There were also a few higher values in the lot but they have 'fiscal' cancels on them. Nice all the same. I have popped them into the 'Fiscal Used' thread. Dave

What I collect: I collect world wide up to 1965 with several specialty albums added due to volume of material I have acquired. At this point I am focused on Canada and British America. I am always on the lookout for stamps and covers with postmarks from communities in Queens County, Nova Scotia. I do list various goods including stamps occasionally on eBay as hdm50

Nice seeing your post Dave ( DK) of possible postally used fiscal stamps. I was bidding on several New Zealand stamps last week. Out of about 10 I bid on sadly this was the only one I won. It is on the way to me. The 7 shilling tends to catalogue rather high but I see 2 in your group plus a few others on this thread so I guess not all that scarce.

The results of the latest Auckland City Stamps auction on Fiscal stamps "Alan Craig’s PRIVATE COLLECTION of New Zealand Revenues & Postal Fiscals" is going to be very informative on prices.

Nice 7/- there Hugh It has a squared circle cancel of Christchurch which is a fairly regularly seen 'postal like' cancel seen on these postal fiscals. 'Postal like' is a fairly good term to use for these types of cancels, as although they have been used on fiscal documents they are also seen used on postal items. Of the 6 items I show above, none are in all likelihood to have been used postally. The 'Dunedin' coin type is most certainly of fiscal origin. Of the hundred or two 'postal like' cancels I have in my books, only a handful would be considered truly 'postally' used. I will get a small selection together to show later. But these cancels, as you and I have shown here, do look attractive. Unlike the perfin'ed, punched, embossed or m/s ones that leave no doubt that they are fiscally used. Of course, Revenue collectors think in the reverse to us postage stamp collectors. They love any revenue stamp so long as they have one of each denomination. Dave

Speaking of the Christchurch Squared Circle ('F' class) cancel - here is an offering on Trademe currently : linkEither the Stamp Office in Christchurch used their own 'Postal Like' Squared Circle canceller, or, the Post Office sure did cancel a lot of these things!! lol Dave

Authentic postally used examples of these 1d lilac stamp duties are as scarce as hen's teeth - fakes abound.
This is seemingly a cleaned, fiscally used example that someone posted decades after the very limited period during which they were legitimately postally used. Likely a collector trying to fill a gap in their collection.
