Yesterday Alex (vikingek) gave a nice oversight of postal stationeries:
There are half a dozen types of POSTAL STATIONERY
1. Postcards rated for inland mailing and international mailing like your Belgium example
2. Double postcards which had a second card attached for the recipient to use as a reply. Again Inland and International rate .
3 letter cards on which a private message could be written, which were folded and had a gummed strip all round to seal and tear off to open
4 Newspaper wrappers with a cheaper stamp which could be put around a newspaper or magazine
5. Envelopes with a printed stamp, with variants for inland, international, airmail, and registered
6. folded flimsy Airmail letter sheets or AEROGRAMS
In the following posts I will try to show the different stationeries,as far as I own them. I will only show of each one or few of a kind of the different types.
All stationeries have in common, that they are sold including postage, usually with an imprinted stamp.
1. postcards
Austria-Hungary was the first country to introduce postcards, then called "Correspondenz-Karte". The shown card is for inland use.It is addressed to Crefeld in Germany.Till the end of World War I between Austria and Germany inland-postage rates were effective.

Thanks for picking up the thread salentin. I used to have a good collection of Danish Stationery 1870s to 1950 but I sold all my Denmark a few years ago now.

In Japan (this one is from the Ryukyus) inland postcards usually form a upright standing rectangle.

Nice one salentin . may I join in ? We are still on Single Postal cards, category 1 on my listing which you quote above. Here is one from Netherlands to Soerabaja in the Netherlands Indies 1896 . Interestingly the stamp indicia is on the left which is not the usual UPU convention

The Swedish inland postcard rate of 5 ore also applied to mail into neighbouring Denmark by a Scandinavian postal agreement . These cards were posted on the Ferry between Helsingborg (Sweden) and Helsingore (Denmark) and cancelled on arrival in Kobenhavn With the Note " Fra Sverige H" ( from Sweden Helsingborg) or the ferry from Landskrona to Kobenhavn "Fra Sverige L " [

A modern foreign mail post card from the Ryukyus. Unlike cards for domestic use,in Japan those for international use are lying rectangles. (The text on the left is a private imprint.Genuinely used cards of the Ryukyus are hard to find.)

Something similar could happen with mail between Hull or Åland and Sweden. That's how I get British cancels on Swedish stamps and Swedish cancels on Finnish ones. I'd love to find a Swedish cancel on a Russian-era stamp.

There are many types of illustrated postcards. This one is an very early one, commemorating the arrival of the new century.

"Bild-Postkarten" were popular in countries of Central-Europe. Basically they were issued for tourist-promotion. They are very numerous.Germany alone issued well over a thousand of them.
The shown one is a foreign-mail card from Czechoslovakia.

Semi-postal card (8 + 7 Pfg.) issued 1928. The clerk in Eitorf had some problems with the cancel, but got it right with the third try.

Not that many postcards exist, where the illustration is on the backside. The term in German for these is "Bild-Post-Karte".The English for it would be "picture-postcard". However the same term is used in English,as far as I know, for private cards with a picture on the back. These are named "Ansichts-Karte" in German.Unlike the Bildpostkarte they have no imprinted stamp.
The above card from Austria, was issued for the 60th anniversary of emperor Franz-Joseph´s accession to the throne.

A last "Bildpostkarten" example. This is from West-Germany,issued on May 21st,1971. Issued in a set of five with different (part)-paintings and drawings of Dürer, for celebrating Albrecht Dürer´s 500th birth anniversary.
The print of 1.5 millions sets was sold out within a few days. After a while, when it became clear, that there were many more cards than stationary-collectors, many cards were "disposed" in the daily mail. However later in 1971 the postage-rate for postcards was increased from 20 to 25 Pfg. So most used postcards bear some additional postage stamps.Genuinely (non-philatelic) used cards without additional stamps are not easy to find.

What I collect: I collect world wide up to 1965 with several specialty albums added due to volume of material I have acquired. At this point I am focused on Canada and British America. I am always on the lookout for stamps and covers with postmarks from communities in Queens County, Nova Scotia. I do list various goods including stamps occasionally on eBay as hdm50

Today I have started through the 'S' countries envelopes. No surprises in the early goings but I did come across these nice post cards stuck between the El Salvador pages of my world wide album. They date from around 1892. They have no great value but I appreciate the quality of the design/printing so I have kept them.

We have a thread for WW postal stationery already running, perhaps this could transfer across Admin ? I feel a thread exclusive to El Salvador has limited potential on its own. I could add that the pink card is an example of my second category of stationery in that other thread , it is a double card with a second prepaid card attached for a reply message .

I guess this US card falls in to the BLIDPOSTKARTE category also and it is an international airmail too !

My second category of stationery is the DOUBLE CARD which like the El Salvador above shown by hdm1950 carries a pre paid half which can be used for a reply to the sender
Here is a 1970 GB reply card . It says the reply half can only be used to a GB address
OUTER side for dispatch
Attached card for reply

One last special postcard:
Like many other cities Berlin had a pneumatic mail system.Inaugurated in 1865,it was subsequently expanded. In West-Berlin it was closed down in 1963,while in East-Berlin,then the capital of the GDR,it ran till 1976. In an age, where private telephones were uncommon, the "Rohrpost" was the fastest way to send messages. Mail and telegrams were sent by this way. If you have a look at the cancels, you will see that they show 10 minutes intervals. Postage, here 25 Pfennig, - an ordinary postcard was 5 Pfg. at the time -,included express-delivery.

This South Africa Aerogramme appealed to me because who doesn't like a rhinoceros as well as the 2 1/2c overprint. It has a partial 1962 Johannesburg cancel.

I am in the process of working on a bid sheet for an upcoming auction so I am going through my British America album so I will share a few bits of postal stationary from that part of the world. This little one from Barbados appears rather common unused so it would appear that there was surplus sold off to stamp dealers. I prefer having this used copy with an added 1/2 penny stamp and mailed to Cheapside. Too bad the year is not clearer but I am guessing it is 1900.
