Well, I'm just about to sort through some modern stamps on paper that a co-worker saved for me. Maybe one or two can be shown in the postmark calendar. I have tomorrow off as a staycation day, though, so maybe I will do more then.

Here is a history of the Pacific Commercial Company Building, now known as Juan Luna E-Services Building, in Manila. Possibly Mr. Fricke worked there. It's a start, anyway.

Hi geneaker and welcome to the forum. Collecting postal history from places that are meaningful sounds very appealing to me. Member jamesw has done some very interesting stuff with this - even picking up a cover that was sent by his uncle! ( link). Looking forward to seeing your stuff. Mick

I believe the form you referenced in the example is PS Form 3849 -- Delivery Notice/Reminder/Receipt. Yes, that's the one. I will post an example of one in thread that you mentioned above.

Thread created for terms possibly not covered by the excellent stamp collecting terms thread. Is there a term for official notices or correspondence received from the post office? ( Example on eBay.) I am thinking, for example, of things like the "re-delivery" postcards that are left when you are not home to receive a registered letter.

Myanmar 2013 The 27th South East Asian Games. One of eight stamps that commemorated the games. On postcard sent to me by a friend who was visiting Myanmar at the time.
Unfortunately I am far from being a stick. More of a log. A round one. (I'm going to reuse this image next year on the Postmark Calendar, as I really like this stamp.)

James, this is beautiful and impressive. And also inspiring - it is a fine example of what I want to work towards in my own postal history collecting.

I was pretty excited when I got to this postcard in my pile o' stuff to be processed.
USA 1981 Nondenominated B rate "Eagle" stamp. I think this is Scott 1820 - the coil variety Used on postcard from Bakersfield, CA to Rio Nido, CA on 3 July 1981. This stamp was issued in March 1981: In 1981 the Postal Rate Commission proposed an increase in postage rates. This proposal was accepted “under protest” by the Postal Service. Subsequently, the USPS released the “B” stamp until sufficient quantities of the 18¢ stamp could be printed. The “B” stamp is identical to the “A” stamp except the color and the letter designation. (from "Nondenominated Postage Stamps of the United States, 2011, American Philatelic Society. Online here.) The postage rate was increased again just seven months later, necessitating the printing of the C Eagle. As the postcard rate at the time of mailing was only 12c ( source), and the value of the B Eagle was 18c, the sender overpaid. Still, I imagine that (unfortunately) this probably not that rare, as a lot of people probably had a fair amount of these stamps on hand after the rate increase. Still, I think it is pretty cool.

I think you are right, Steve. A search for "per favor" brought up a lot of very interesting old correspondence (mainly via google books), and afforded me a happy half hour or so. Included in my search results was this from "Post Offices That Never Were", The Alaskan Philatelist, 38:4 (2002) - Commercial Fishing in Alaska called for personal mail service since the ships and crews were often separated from fixed stations. Informal arrangements were established that included carriage of the mail by the first boat of a fleet to leave a fishing area -- and the mail was faithfully deposited in the first post office. The handling of mail “per favor” was common for both incoming and outgoing items... link.

Cover sent from Ontario to Israel - no. 2 30 June 1994 2 x 44c flag stamp (coil)
Same sender and recipient as my previous cover, a couple of months previous. (I'll save future ones in the series for the postmark calendar.) I just liked the use of the two coil stamps, with postal slogan framing them nicely.

I'm gradually assembling a collection of covers from Oregon coast towns, and if I assemble enough I will perhaps create a separate thread. This one is from Astoria, a lovely town in which I hope to settle in a few years, to Phoenixville, PA. It's a FDC, which is not usually my thing, but it's not really that "philatelic" in character. It commemorates the Whitman-Spalding trek, a 1835-6 expedition from New York to Oregon.

Many thanks once again, khj and falschung. I think that the time has definitely come for me to invest in some good catalogs. Up to now I have just being relying on stampworld.
(Of course the above stamp is indeed there, but I was looking under the People's Republic, not thinking to look at earlier issues.)

This is probably a very common stamp, but I could not identify it with my (limited) resources. Can someone point me in the right direction? I'm pretty sure that it is Chinese, but that is about as far as I have got.

Brazil has produced a great many stamps to commemorate the 2016 Olympics, and here is one that came my way recently. It was affixed to a postcard of one of the 2014 World Cup stadiums - nice combo of stamp and card. The postmark is pretty nice too.

Mick, let me know if you'd like these as afreebie. I have duplicates of a few of these if anyone else is interested. Dave, I am definitely interested in these - thank you very much for the generous offer. But I don't want to bogart them if others are interested too - e.g. maybe smauggie would also like a shot at them?

You both are so right and encouraging. On an upside note, Manishmo, I have a 14 year old granddaughter who likes "vintage things" ... she and I write letters to each other a few times a month and she gets the biggest kick out of actually getting "snail mail". I started collecting when I became a grandfather the first time and consider my granddaughter the owner of "my" collection and myself as a mere steward. Sadly she shows zero interest (so far) in philately. However, we did use part of her collection for a Social Studies Fair project on the postal system - she garnered 2nd place in the parish (county) but most important got an A in Social Studies that year. Congrats to her, and I think it's a fine thing that the two of you write letters to one another. I hope that it can be "your thing" for many years to come :-). And maybe she will get more interested in the postal history side of philately. As an aside, has anyone had any experience with the Cover Collectors Circuit Club? On the one hand it seems like it may be fun to join. But on the other hand the example covers on their web page all seem quite artificially "philatelic", which does not interest me that much.

I got interested in metered mail (or is it meter mail?) after winning this auction lot. I started putting aside the covers that I received in the mail, with a vague idea that I could perhaps build up a zip code collection of meters. However, upon scanning this today, I realized that the design itself is actually very cool looking:
And I thought that I may as well start a thread to celebrate the humble meter. This example sent 10 June 2016.
