Does anyone know? Exist the stamps with the German battleship Gneisenau? I have searched the site shipstamps.co.uk and while the Gneisenau, is mentioned, it does not appear that there are any stamps issued of her.

The SS NormandieSS Normandie was an ocean liner built in Saint-Nazaire, France, for the French Line Compagnie Générale Transatlantique (CGT). She entered service in 1935 as the largest and fastest passenger ship afloat; she is still the most powerful steam turbo-electric-propelled passenger ship ever built. Her novel design and lavish interiors led many to consider her the greatest of ocean liners. Despite this, she was not a commercial success and relied partly on government subsidy to operate. During service as the flagship of the CGT, she made 139 westbound transatlantic crossings from her home port of Le Havre to New York. Normandie held the Blue Riband for the fastest transatlantic crossing at several points during her service career, during which RMS Queen Mary was her main rival. During World War II, Normandie was seized by US authorities at New York and renamed USS Lafayette. In 1942, the liner caught fire while being converted to a troopship, capsized onto her port side and came to rest on the mud of the Hudson River at Pier 88, the site of the current New York Passenger Ship Terminal. Although salvaged at great expense, restoration was deemed too costly and she was scrapped in October 1946.

Peacekeeping is the maintenance of peace by an armed force. This is usually done in the context of a United Nations peacekeeping mission. It is an honourable task and in 2012, Japan commemorated peacekeeping by issuing the stamps below. UN peacekeeping began in 1948 and since then there have been 69 UN Peacekeeping Operations

One of my favourite stamp sets is the American Airmail stamps issued in the summer of 1947. The 3 value set features prominent aircraft and landmarks of the time. The stamps were printed by rotary press and are perforated 11 x 10½. The 10¢ value features the Martin 2-0-2 and the Pan American Union Building in Washington DC. The Martin 2-0-2 first flew in November of 1946 and was built as an intended replacement for the venerable DC-3. With a production run of only 47 aircraft, these aircraft were in operation until the mid-1970s. The major operators of the 2-0-2 were Northwest Orient Airlines, LAN Chile and Trans World Airlines. The Pan American Union Building was built between 1908 and 1910. The cornerstone was laid on May 11, 1908 by Theodore Roosevelt, Elihu Root, and Andrew Carnegie. The headquarters of the Organization of American States, it hosted the initial meeting of the International Labour Organization in 1919 and the Washington Naval Conference of 1921. A Lockheed Constellation and the New York skyline are shown on the 15¢ value. The Lockheed Constellation was first flown in 1943. The “Connie” first served as a military transport before becoming a civilian airliner. 856 Constellations were built and the aircraft were used from their introduction until the 1990s. A “Connie” was Dwight D. Eisenhower’s presidential aircraft. Major operators were Trans World Airlines, Eastern Airlines, Pan Am and Air France. There are few views that are as iconic as the New York skyline. We can see the Statue of Liberty, Empire State Building and many more buildings. Finally the 25¢ value shows us a Boeing Stratocruiser flying over the Golden Gate San Francisco Oakland Bay Bridge. The Stratocruiser was first flown on July 8th 1947 and was based on the Stratofreighter which was derived from the Superfortress. With only 59 aircraft built the Stratocruiser was one of, if not the most luxurious airliner of this period. Major operators were Pan Am, BOAC and Northwest Orient Airlines. Opened in 1936, the San Francisco Oakland Bay Bridge is constructed from suspension, truss and cantilever bridge types. It spans 23,000 feet between San Francisco and Alameda counties. The RMS Empress of Ireland Another favourite issue of mine is Canada Post's issue commemorating the RMS Empress of Ireland. The Empress of Ireland was an ocean liner that sank in the St. Lawrence river after colliding with a Norwegian collier on May 29, 1914. 1012 of the 1477 people aboard her perished. The ship was commemorated by Canada Post in a May 2014 issue.

The MV GreenpeaceOriginally built as an Ocean going salvage tug, the MV Greenpeace began her sea going career as the Elbe in 1959. She was acquired by Greenpeace in 1977 and entered service with them in 1986 after being refit and modernized. MV Greenpeace took over from the Rainbow Warrior which was sunk by French commandos in 1985. In her 15 years with Greenpeace, the Black Pig as she was referred as by her crew sailed around the world several times. While protesting submarine launched trident missiles in 1989 she was rammed by US Naval ships.
In 1993 activists aboard the Greenpeace exposed Russia’s dumping of 900 tonnes of radioactive waste into the Sea of Japan. In 1995 while protesting against French nuclear tests in French Polynesia she was boarded and her crew detained while in international waters. In 2001 the MV Greenpeace was replaced by the MV Esperanza and converted back to her original form and is now a museum ship. These stamps were issued by Romania on March 6, 1997. They are perforated 13.5 on all sides. MV Greenpeace Technical Specifications: Tonnage: 1,176 BRT Length: 58.06 m Beam: 11.22 m Draught: 5.2 m Propulsion: Two main Diesel, Smit M.A.N. Issued on February 28, 1967 was a set of 5 stamps depicting various ships from the Soviet fishing fleet along with various type of sea life. All are demoninated 6 ruble and are perforated 12 x 11½. They stamps were printed by lithography. This is one of my favourite sets of stamps. I like the image of the various fishing vessels with a depiction of the fish that they fish for. The top stamp depicts a trawler/factory ship. On these ships the catch is processed on board. The second stamp depicts a refrigeration ship. Where the catch would be stored but processed to the extent that a factory ship is capable. The thrird stamp in the set shows us a crab canning ship. This type of ship is similar to the factory ship but is specific to processing and canning a crab catch. The fourth ship is a trawler. On these ships the catch is preserved but processed at either a factory on shore or transfered to a factory ship. The last stamp in the set depicts a Black Sea seiner. A seiner is a ship that uses a seine (a net with weights on one end floats an the other). As of 2002 the Russian fishing fleet was composed of 2,500 fishing vessels, 366 transport and 46 factory ships with a length overall greater than 24 metres (78' 9"). As of 2005 there were an additional 2,491 fishing vessels smaller than this. The fleet is quite old and not equipped to modern standards in terms of fishing and safety. Thanks for your response ianh Can you provide us a little bit more on what you envision stampcollectingspot to be? While I have noticed that mystampworld.net is trending down on the activity level I believe that it is a complete social networking site for collectors, much like myphilately used to be. I do wish your site success, I just want to know what you envision the end result to be. All the best,
