When I was a kid and started collecting back in the early 70's, I thought that any Hitler stamps were banned and illegal to possess. I was a pretty smart kid usually, but I had my naïve moments, I guess. Now I have a number of them and they don't seem to be such a big deal.

Easy stamping day today. I got on Royal Mail’s website and ordered their dinosaur stamps and the new 100th anniversary of commemorative stamps set.

If it's a small portion of the stamp that's stuck to the glassine, would it be ok to just carefully cut away the glassine as close as possible, and leave the stamp like that? The stamp stays intact, and that's always best, I'd think. No worse than a hinge remnant stuck to the stamp, yes?

Today, I made my first foray of the year to my little local post office. They always serve me well. Always eager to help out a collector, instead of hurrying me along to get through the line of packages and parcels in line behind me...because there never IS a line! And they always have the new stamps I'm looking for in stock.
Whoops...not so fast. Today, I picked up the following 2024 issues: Love, Dragon Lunar New Year, Constance Baker Motley, and John Wooden. But no Saul Bellows in stock! Darn the luck! I'll have to check another branch nearby...there's a few in the area.
Then, It dawns on me: maybe I can help out some of you and you can help out me. I always buy a few more of each stamp than i need, and I eventually us the extras as postage. But what if I could trade with someone who needs them and missed out? I'm still going thru the task of adding 2022 and 2023 stamps to my Mystic album, and I'll have a number of those spare as well. There might even be some 2021's left. Can I help anyone with something they may have missed, or can they send anything my way that I could not get at the time? I'd take Canada or GB stamps in trade as well. Let me know if you're interested.
This marked my 1000th post on the forum. Huzzah! Proposing trades seems like a noble way to celebrate that milestone. Here's to the next thousand!

What about uncut press sheets? I have the Space Exploration sheet from 2000 (Scott 3409-3413, I think). It's rolled up in the mailing tube I received it in. It obviously won't fit in an album. I'd like to frame it and display it, but I fear that it would fade over time. Maybe that wouldn't be a fear if I hung it up in my basement man cave. I'd appreciate any thoughts on that.

JeffS... Thank you for sharing this part of your collection. I've always kind of dismissed the 1c Jefferson stamp as being relatively minor, overly plentiful, and unimportant. This threads shows it to me in a different light, and I really appreciate that you've done that for me. I've always felt the same way about that 10c Jefferson Memorial stamp. It was EVERYWHERE when I was a beginning collector as a kid, and I dismissed that one as well. This just goes to show that even the smallest denominations of stamps hold value and interest. The 3c Jefferson Prexie is probably very similar in this regard to many collectors. It's uses are plentiful, but you could sure make an entire collection out of just that stamp. Thanks again!

3 degrees, -14 wind chill here. I’m huddled in my man cave (basement) sorting through some Canada and adding stamps to my albums. My goodness, I have a lot of stamps to soak , but I’ll sort and make sure I’m only soaking stamps i need. I was going to work on my 2022 US supplement, until I discovered…I never ordered one! So, it’s been ordered, I’ll work on that later this week. Hopefully order a 2023 supplement soon as well.

The challenge of figuring out the stamp is prize enough. Especially if it's a daily occurrence. I'll add it to my daily Wordle and Connections puzzle challenges! The stamps tend to be tougher for me, as you usually offer up something outside my collecting orbit, but that's ok!
Might I suggest, if it continues daily, allow the 24 hours after you post the stamp image for us to reasonably figure it out. Then, share the solution before you offer up the next one. For me, the task becomes keeping a daily streak going, like I do with Wordle (I'm currently at 56 days, after I miss one because we were busy and I didn't even realize I'd miss it. Before that, I was around 90 days in a row).

I resolve to finish the 2021 and 2022 supplements for my Mystic US album, so that I can do the 2023 supplement as well and as soon as I can order it.

I like some sheets. Others, not so much. I love classic ones from the European countries mentioned by rednaxela. Canada always has, and still does, make sheets I like. U.S.sheets are a given, and Royal Mail always comes up with sheets I enjoy. The countries that make the tacky ones that look like the images were drawn by first grade kids with crayons...I avoid those like poison. The sheets featuring topics that have nothing to do with the country names on them...nope.

This came to my office earlier this week, and the office manager saved it for me. Political solicitation, so I’m surprised they used a bunch of older stamps.

There's no shame in not being a member, daveg28 But you may want to look into joining. Especially if you are considering doing any philatelic research, they offer excellent resources. As I mentioned in my earlier post, I waited a very long time to join, and perhaps the reason I didn't sooner is that my Dad, who started me in collecting, was never a member, and I generally took my cues from him. I honestly have a hard time justifying a membership for myself. I don't have any really valuable stamps, despite the length of time I've been collecting, so I have no need for expertizing. Nor do I have any need for research material beyond what I can find out on a Google search. I've done this hobby solo for a very long time. You folks are the people who I converse with over my stamps. However...I am willing to hear reasons why I should reconsider having a membership.

I didn't think there was a way to remove scotch tape from stamps, or the residue and stains it leaves behind.

One of my best hauls was an estate sale. A buddy’s mom had passed and he reached out and asked me to come take a look. A year later, he had another box for me he found in the crawl space.

I don't get to spend nearly as much time on my collection as I'd like. My wife always seems to have other ideas to occupy my/our time. ("Really? Mow the grass AGAIN?" "Watch a rom-com movie with you? Now?" "Go furniture shopping? Now?") And then she gets irritated when I leave stamps scattered on the basement{man cave) coffee table in various stages of sorting. If she'd let me finish, they wouldn't be there all the time? (Of course, she doesn't understand...it's NEVER finished).
I'm sure I'm not alone in this situation.

Mint gets a mount. Used gets a hinge. If the used stamp is worth more than a coupe of dollars, or if it's sufficiently aged that its fragile, it gets a mount. These aren't hard and fast rules, but I'd say 95% of the time, it works for me. Yes, stamps in mounts make the album get significantly thicker. DrewM said double or triple thickness. If they are self-adhesive stamps, figure on even quadruple thickness (gotta count the stamp backing as well). My Mystic U.S. albums are quickly approaching binder number seven.

Yes, I was a scout back in the 70’s. And yes I earned the stamp collecting merit badge. One of the few I had earned before I quit. Many of the other scouts in my troop, despite being junior high or high school age at most, treated many new members to hazings and borderline bullying, so I checked out. Only made it to second class when I quit at age 13.

This is the little post office I usually buy my stamps at. Monclova, Ohio, just south of Toledo. The first pic is the old building, and I’m not sure when it dates to. The second is the current building. And the stamps are my haul from today's visit. A good day! I love that little post office.
Edit: A little Google search informed me that the old post office building was built in 1914. It was restored back to its original appearance around 2008.

It appears that these pages do contain the final Machins issued in April of 2022. So i guess it's reasonable to assume it's complete for the series, as a basic album at least. That's all I want. I collect them based on color and denominations, plus the regionals. Hopefully the pages in the link are useful to others as well.
I laugh when I think back to when i started collecting in the early '70s, and I thought then that there were an awful lot of those stamps (I didn't know yet that they were called Machins). Little did I know then, that I was seeing the very beginning of the series, and I'm now seeing the end.
