I am still pursuing those elusive five hole perfs(OA's) they are pricy when available which they weren't from my local stamp dealer when I was a young fledgling.

cursus as most here know I have a pretty extensive collection of Canada cindy's glad to see another who finds them of interest. When time allows I will explore and expand this thread. My cindys are mounted according to date issued right in with my stamps somehow I find it adds to a more complete aspect to the whole. I might add the revenues also follow the same suit. Ron helped me with his knowledge and also assisted with completion of a few sets of which I was missing a few. His publication is one of my prized reference books.

much like Jerry the majority of my collection is on blank quadrille pages and my choice is black split backs not particular of brand so choice of sizes is great. If there is a downside it would be the risk of damaging a stamp trying to insert it in split back mount.I know have done it. Tore a F3 mint copy which went to Mitch for his worldwide display. Not sure you all remember but my mounts are stored in accordion files. It is best thing I have ever done! Three of these holds all the sizes and is just so easy to find the size I need.

I am still actively pursuing the 5 holes perfs. At the prices they are selling for it will probably remain an unfinished collection but I am always hopeful.

hdm 1950 values on rarer revenues are solid meaning they regularly trade above 50% catalog or more.It is a slow process to amass a good collection unless your wallets fat

Thanks djcmb for that link. Are any pictures of watermarks included in their text? I'm rather cheap when it comes to buying books and catalogs.$100 is pretty steep price to pay for information that in my opinion should be shared for free or at the least more reasonable. Can't remember now the circumstance but few years ago some information I was looking for was also being held ransom. It has set the tone for me that these schemes do zero to promote the hobby! Just my own feelings.

interesting post thanks for that. Not really on topic but does anyone know where to find similar information on Newfoundland and other BNA watermarks on revenues stamps? Van damn catalog only mentions watermarks without pictures of them. I'm kinda hooked on Halifax law library issues among others.

I settled on using date of issue to put things in order. Even my revenues are in the mix not always great but to me it makes more sense.

My story is much the same as most of the previous stories posted.Mom was a US collector from age of 8 so as we grew she bought us all starter albums.Mine was a Cornet funny how i actually remember that.Us three kids would exchange our duplicate but as you can imagine that only lasted so long. I used to help Mom cataloging her Washingtons and Franklins which was the deciding factor for me to collect something else.I expressed an interest in Canada so she found me a Minkus Canada album. Our primary source of stamps was our insurance man who came monthly to collect the premium. He provided me a set of the war issue and to this day I remember hoping that 5cent was in there as i had mounted the rest of the set Fast forward I used my paper route money to take a bus downtown to the only stamp dealer around. He was as I remember of eastern European extraction and after I had purchased all his meager stock offered I was for awhile at a stand still. Then Mom informed me she had found a new dealer who had opened a shop locally. This turned into a bit of a godsend as he was truly a small time dealer eking out a living selling stamps. As such he was amazingly well informed of most countries stamp issues and kept me posted what I had been missing. Then i found listing of stamp auctions in a magazine and the Frog collection began to take shape.to this day i remember my first win at auction I had posted bids of 40% of catalog for some first cent issues and won them all. I had to do some quick scrambling to find $517. As most by this time collecting was in spurts. Life's other doings presented themselves but my now expanded albums remained on the shelves. My music career and involvement ate most of my time. My home was broken into the night I married my lovely wife and it was then I remembered my stamps. They were safe but some of my music equipment was four sheets to the wind.It was then and there that I realized my stamps were probably worth many times more than my precious instruments I had lost. And my renewed interest was sparked. Not long after we had purchased our first computer and a whole world of stamps opened to my eyes. As my collection reached the saturation point and those MIA's were beyond the budget I expanded into Cinderellas and improved my providence holdings. Today I am actively working on my revenues and those pesky 5 hole perfs both of which are not only expensive but hard to find. I spend a lot of time looking through listings and offerings searching for the hidden gems. Surprisingly they still crop up now and then stressing the importance of knowing your material. I'm still working 6 months out of the year probably much harder than I should at my age but I still enjoy my job so I can't see the end yet. My Boston girls are almost there. One has landed her dream job as critical care nurse in neo-natal unit and the second is graduating in May with her second masters and working on her doctorate. I hope one day to post some more of the Frog collection, if only life would give me a 30 hour day and a cat that slept past 4 a.m.

My list for several years remained only six over priced stamps. While I still covet them,I have expanded the list to other weak areas in the collection to bring it up to a more well rounded TOTAL collection. My current quest is revenues so I'll remain broke for some time to come, possibly forever.

if you look at my thread Wanted More Dead Than Alive under Canada you will find my ten year(so far) mission to collect these crazy straight edge admiral stamps. The two straight edge corner stamps are very elusive and while years ago I would have rejected them today I realize how unique they truly are and I guess you'd say rare.Think about the fact that out of every 400 stamp sheet only one of each corner appears.

I'll echo the thought great thread. My goal for 2019 was to work on semi-official airs and five hole perfs and fill at least one of the six MIA's in Canada.I managed to work on the five holes the others took a back seat after the hydraulic pump died a painful death in the excavator.($5000)I also had to replace the old beast after the struts poked through what was left of the body.My new beast is a 2007 also a Forester My goals in 2020 is continuing progress on the neglected revenues and moving them into the Funky Frog collection.Maybe if nothing else breaks I'll get to work on at least some more five hole perfs.

well after your suggestions I looked through the desk(duh) that I'm sitting at and lo and behold ...flags.I tried a couple and found the stick is not to my liking. They may be old but maybe that's a good test in time.I'll rummage through later and see if maybe there are some sticky notes as well. Thanks all I want to think it all through before I start something that as usual I end up doing over a different way.

@stainlesb color variety the range of colors is astronomical.Printed for many many years in bunches of batches.Of course age plays into it with color fade at different rates depending on the ink used at the time.I have this stamp from almost true brown to beyond apple red

As you probably know I've been working on incorporating my revenues into the collection chronologically and here lies my current dilemma. I've been keeping them in the Van dam albums til the page is complete and then moving the page into the mix, however I now realize even if I spent my entire income on them it will never be complete .Do any of you use those little tabs to mark pages still needing work?I vaguely remember tabs from my school days that could be applied to pages but that was a long long time ago.

vikingeck I found the two volume set(used) at a price I couldn't turn down. The retail on this two volume set is already quite high.My revenues will end up on a mix of the Van dam pages and my usual quadrilles. If I can live another 70 years(yeah right) maybe I'll complete most of them.

I thought I'd post a review of the Van Dam album maybe to help those interested get an idea off it's content. The opinions expressed are strictly my own and in no way reflect on any of the work done to produce this specialty work. The first thing I noticed was the inconsistences in the listing of varieties. this is the page presented for the first bill stamps. There is no page for the varieties. Here is a page listing the varieties on some law stamps.Mant of these would be considered very rare. The other thing I have noticed was that some pages while maintaining consistency become way to crowded fast.If you use hinges it would probably work a bit better but the layout is IMO still very crowded. My rating would be three stars.

I am a combination of the hoarder and the completionist. It will be my downfall. Pretty much says it all for me.I've even taken the baby steps to include revenues to the completion state of my BNA.Now if I see a cinderilla that fits into it all I become part magpie as well.

as mentioned my focus of late is making my revenues more complete.I discovered on examination I was missing only the 20 and 30 cent(FB11&12) from the first issue of federal bill stamps.I found this lot and was the cheaper approach to obtain both so I jumped on it. free images uploadImagine my surprise on examining theFB9 to discover the "B" for "E" error.
