If I may, I'd love to share images of some of my Swiss souvenir sheets. The classic postal centenary sheets of 1943 & 1945 have been favorites of mine since i was young. My scanner is on strike, so I've tried to make best use of my trusty, dusty phone/camera. Forgive the glare. This small sheet marked the 25th anniversary of the Pro Juventute stamp program. The sheet is imperforate with simulated silver perforations. Number recorded sold was et 434,739. It was issued 20 December 1937 and was valid until 31 May 1938. Scott B89. Next is the first of the cantonal classics. Scott B130 from 26 February 1943, the large Zurich sheet. It was valid until the end of December. Number sold was 118, 366. My sheet has the postmark of the Swiss Postal Museum, 1 March 1943. That was the Monday after the sheet was issued on Friday. My last sheet for tonight is the small Zurich sheet, Scott B131. The issue and validity dates are the same as above, and the quantity sold was 160,765. My example has the red fancy postmark of the Postal Museum, again on 1 March 1943. Favor cancel, full gum. Validity dates, price, and printing information on back. Enough for now, more to come in my next posts

Nice sheets. The only one I have is the 1955 Lausanne. Some of the numbers issued seem quite small, especially when divided by unmounted mint, mounted mint, used and perhaps stamps used singly.

The numbers are on the almost scarce level, but not nearly rare. Another factor is the crazy European habit of collecting an intact sheet as well as stamps cut from a sheet. As promised, here are some more. First is Scott B132, the Geneva cantonal sheet with a pair of the arms of Geneva stamp. Issued on 17 September 1943 and valid until 31 May 1944. The surtax on this one aided the Red Cross. Quantity sold was 160,978. The back advertises the Geneva National Philatelic Exposition of 1943. There is a position number at the bittom, no.8. I have 2 more marked no.20. Scott B144, the Basel Dove sheet. Issued 14 April 1945. Valid through 31 December 1945. The dove motif is slightly embossed. Quantity sold was 146,143. And last for now is the other sheet fro. 1945, the War Relief Life Boat issue, Scott B143. Somehow this seems more quickly prepared than the other sheets. I know that there were 16 positions and there are some flaws or differences in the images. Issued 20 February 1945, valid until the end of that year. Quantity was 128,731. I have another example of this sheet that was trimmed 1.5mm across the top by a previous owner. Until next time....

And a few more. I have to admit that I am particularly fond of all the classic Swiss sheets and I buy extras whenever I can find them at good prices. Here is my only example of sc B80, the Pro Patria sheet from 1936. The big guy is "Freiberger Senn" from a famous illustration, although Scott identifies him as just "Alpine Herdsman." The sheet was issued on 23 October 1936 and was valid until 31 May 1937. The print run was 126,000. Next is one of the best looking sheets ever, the Aarau Exhibition sheet of 1938, sc 242. Number sold was 204,855. Issued 17 September 1938 and valid until the end of 1942. Presented here are a mint, a CTO with first day postmark, and a registered cover postmarked 18 September 1938. And to close, the Lusanne Exposition sheet of 1955. Print run was 224,150, issued 15 February 1955, valid until 31 December 1955. This one was postally used, there is no gum, with an Expositon postmark of 15 October 1955, and I don't know why. My mint examples of this sheet have the usual printed information on the back about price and validity dates. This sheet was soaked, and that erased the back printing. That is almost all of my classic Swiss sheet collection. I hope you have enjoyed them, learned something, and maybe will get some on your own. Please add your own photos and comments, I would love to see them.

Here are my newest additions. This is the St. Gallen NABAG Exposition sheet from 1959, right at the end of the classic souvenir sheet period. The first day of issue was 9 March 1959, good until 31 December 1959. The print run was a massive 436,106. The second sheet has a favor postmark of the postal museum from 21 August 1959. More on the way soon...

Here are a couple of new ones for me. First is Sc B119, a sheet marking the National Fete and the 2nd millennium of Geneva, 1942. Issued 15 June, valid until 30 November 1942. Print run 118, 041. Next is Sc B178 from 1948, issued for the Basel International Philatelic Exhibition. Valid 21 August 1948 to the end of that year. The guy with the beard is Johann Wettstein, a founder of the Swiss confederation. Print run 202,240.

The 1959 St.Galen sheet does seem a large print compared to the others. I'm sure it would not take much extra demand on these print numbers to push up prices.
