Someone told me that, I thought about it... and agree. I don't have a scan of the stamp by itself, but I do have a pic of it on my 'Page 1', which is where it belongs. I don't collect anything but US, however, how can I overlook the original? The empty spots for the 1&2 reproductions are going to be covered by one of my "Stampless", as I never see myself filling those 2 holes. This page with a 1,2, PB, and Stampless would be a great representation of the 'beginning' in my opinion. I just have to come up with a safe mounting option for the Stampless letter. I was given the Penny Black by a stamp trading partner in the UK. I told him I didn't have one, and he sent me one! I was floored.

Now that's a good friend! I don't have a penny black. I did have a penny blue at one time but traded for some early US stuff. I sort of regret it now...lol Also, same here on filling the #2,#3 & #4..it dosen't look good!

If any of you want to befriend someone like ratio411's benefactor did, I'd like to go on record as saying that I don't have a Penny Black.

I got mine for $38 from a dealer in the U.K. I just kept bidding $40 as my high bid, and eventually I won one (on eBay).

Here is my Penny Black courtesy of Irishjack and the TSF donation auction. Perhaps someone can plate it. I love it - it looks like Victoria has Maori war paint on her!

I once sat at an auction and watched bewildered as two men, bid against each other for 2 penny blacks and the price went for $725 each. I now get up at 2am, to bid on a particular stamp set in NY, the set is clearly available from ebay (4 sets for around $40-$75) The set I was to bid on is now hitting close to $140 Clearly a huge benefit for auctioneering.

On my to get list along with many other items, going to have to pay a premium for nice clean 4 margin example though, only have a limited disposable income (as many of us do) so getting different examples may be quite a reach for my GB collection.

There are so many catalogues about and sent out, that there is always opportunity to cut out of them the stamps you either don't have, or can't afford, this is better than having blank spaces, from an appearence persective.

I'd like to publicly thank the Administrator (Jack) and the moderators who do such a fab job, for the lovely FREE Gift they sent me today, out of the blue. Very much appreciated, thanks Guys and Gals. It's chomped and probably tampered with, but all stamps are welcome at my place, and this little fellow was once part of 239 siblings on a sheet of paper, no matter how he looks today. My first Penny Black in 14 years of collecting. No stamps are ever binned at my place, in fact, another 3,000 pink through Magenta damaged stamps, and I'll be putting them on my GIANT Pushbike / tredley.

Rod your more then welcome, I had it on eBay and the sale went south, I guess in your part of the world I should say the sale went north I never took a close look at it I think your right the R was originally a P. Only way I could remedy the problem is change your username to pod222 8D. I glad it arrived safe and sound, always fun to spring a surprise on the members of TSF , nice job on the page.

We shall have to wait and see, I need more access to Penny Black Literature.
The original (small letters) were hand punched on the die, the "R" did wear considerably and on the Penny Reds of later, they had "Hand-Cut" repairs to the "R" Most of these I have seen are fine and Spindly leg to the "R" (sighted CV $240 )
Not sure if the "R" on the Penny Black suffered the same fate.
Typo Correction: The stamp was part of 240 siblings on the page / sheet of stamps , he had 239 siblings.

Thanks to stoltzpup's offering at the TSF 1 Year Anniversary Auction, I am now the proud owner of a Penny Black. The auction listing image didn't do her justice.

I don't have a Penny Black or Penny Blue and probably never will have one but I sure would like one of each. What an awesome cover sheet or First page in my U.S. Album that would make. I've been collecting on and off for the past 45 years. More years off than on though.
