This morning while scanning some stamps I scanned the back of the same stamp twice.... but in different locations on the scanner "flatbed" (cropping is slightly different , but no change to color settings) I tried this on another stamp... similar result. I have an Epson V600, and maybe it's starting to go south... or could be a common quirk (which would be nice to know). For now I have made a 'window" template using black craft paper so all scans are in the same relative space. Could others try scanning the back of a stamp that has a stain., tec in different locations on the scanners flatbed (upper/lower/different quadrants)? On the inked side I cannot see any real difference. Thanks in advance

Scanners will typically have more accurate colors in the center as opposed to the edges.

Did you crop the photos after scanning or by drawing a different scan box in your scanner software? If the second, that could explain it.

Because the stamp had been moved, the crop frame may, and probably was different (and the skew),.For now i have a made a "mask" so all my scanning is in the same area.
If this starts to vary it'll be time to get a new scanner (I've put a lot of hours on this one!)
I suppose that is maybe why the back light function is limited to a middle "lane"

I have seen scanners change exposure/color based upon how you crop it using scanner utility tools such as Epson Scan and Vuecan (what I use most). I would scan the entire area of what ever you want capture then save image. Then crop the resulting region as needed to remove scanner adjusting effect. I can better control the tinkering with Vuescan, My Vuescan settings.

With what I am doing at the moment i will notate crop dimension for each stamp that will be scanned again. I do use VueScan and the settings for this are saved, and at the moment, scanning, saving, and then cropping in another program is to time intensive (and then there is a concern what that programs 'script' might change... too many added variables). i am doing groups of 8-12 stamps, front and back over a period of time /accumulative processes (I shall say no more at the moment!) I am now scanning in the same area of the scanner and the crop dimension will not vary (the stamps are different size, so for this reason each particular field from stamp to stamp may change enough to accommodate the stamp and limit the amoun to background (black) is in the image as I have found that background colors can have an impact on how the scanners optics 'see". I do thank you angore for your input!
