This Cape of Good Hope grey-black half penny stamp has a cancellation I haven’t seen before. Hoping someone can direct me to a site where I can look up similar cancels from that era.

This Cape of Good Hope grey-black half penny stamp has a cancellation I haven’t seen before. Hoping someone can direct me to a site where I can look up similar cancels from that era. If my memory is still plugged in, this is a postmark typical for printed matter and newspaper wrappers and such. On another front, the printed impression of the stamp looks odd, more like a wash drawing one would find in an essay instead of a printed stamp. Perhaps its just the enlargement.

I thought it might be a fancy Newspaper Branch from the UK of which there are hundreds of types . But it does not in fact match after all.
Turning the image sideways. Reveals. G. 22. A . Though that leaves me none the wiser.

Many thanks for your post, Jim ( jimwentzell ). It is indeed an interesting cancel. When I first saw the image, I thought I knew where to get your answer, but that hasn't panned out. The cancel on your stamp is not shown in either of the two sources I knew about. You can find those here, and they are free for downloading as references: classic.stamps.org/userfiles/file/articles_distinction/PSGSA-2014.pdfUnfortunately, I can't shed anymore light on the cancel itself, however, the PSGSA-2014.pdf referred to above is an excerpt from "Forerunners" issue #79.
The complete issue, along with issues #1 to #99 (Jan - Apr 2021) can be downloaded here Forerunners Archive
Forerunners is the official journal of the Philatelic Society for Greater Southern Africa.

I've seen the same type cancel on same stamp (but with G overprint for Griqualand West). Sorry, don't know what type of cancel it is.
