Hi All, can anyone tell me what's the 800 over ... please! its either 300 or 500 I tends to lean towards the 500 but i think that's only because it's my stamp:), and from many previous experiences my its my brain's opportunity to want to play games and fool me that's why I would love to get your opinion on that and see what's your brain saying Roni

Bottom tablet was the dead giveaway, but PostmasterGS delivers with the technology.

Wow PostmasterGS how did you do that you are a legend ... Thank You! While I got you there, please I wanna show you one of my latest discoveries that I am so excited about ... not sure if it's a common thing or it could be rare ... I am only excited because I was the one who discovered it ... pls give me few minutes I will have it scanned and posted. of course once you check it out your opinion means a lot to me, Regards Roni This is the Stamp I was reffering to I have placed it under a good strong magnification and it looks like the stamp was printed over the over print ... and now we have the overprint became the under print ... what your outlook on this PostmasterGS ... Thanks heaps buddy. Roni

Hi decentguy I checked my stamp and the overprint is normal (applied over the stamp design) This overprint (centime/franc) was applied to the stamps issued in 1947 but also to a new issue (neuauflage). Your stamp is Michel 235Z II (with two subtypes, depending on the distance between 0 and F - see catalog photo) The new issue (neuauflage) can be recognized by the white paper and gum (the 1947 issue is on yellowish paper - I don't have an example) For Mi 235 Z II you can see the horizontal line of A in SAAR which is lower than in the 1947 issue.

Optical illusion . The question what is printed on top what is underneath can sometimes be confusing and vexing .
The suggestion here that the red could be the underprint is sadly a case of the eye deceiving because the blue grey is such a dominant colour the eye believes it is on top of the red.
The question can be even more vexing with a black postmark and a black overprint . Sometimes it is critical to sort out genuine used from faked. Black on black which is on top can be very hard to decide.

I had the impression that the cancellation is under overprint. I was answered that often the cancellation ink does not adhere well to the overprint area and I can check it in strong light under a small angle.
