What I collect: Cinderellas and some Ephemera from Great Britain, France and Israel plus a few beautiful bits from elsewhere !! Topical interests include Flags & Judaica, the latter with an emphasis on the Jewish National Fund.

A few of these were shown in an earlier post but I recently managed to pick up this full set which is not available very often. 1920 GREAT BRITAIN PHILATELIC CONGRESS. Officially named Newcastle-Upon-Tyne I wonder if the designer couldn't find room for the full City name ? This 7th Congress ran from May 25th-28th and as was normal, Commemorative Labels were produced. The central building shown is St.Nicholas's Cathedral in the City centre. It was from this Congress that the 'Roll of Distinguished Philatelists' was born. The London Stamp Club had put forward a proposal and drawn up a list of 25 names to sign the 'Order of Philatelic Merit', but the name was changed before the 8th Congress in Harrogate, Yorkshire when the 'Roll' had it's first signatories. vikingeck might ( or might not !) recognize one or more of the Stamps shown on this 72nd Congress Sheet from Cambridge, 1990. This sheet is only worth a few pence but it is the first post here in over a year so let's show it !!

Ha ha! Girton college barely existed back in the 1880s ... it was a ladies only college founded in 1869 but did not get full status till 1948 . It certainly did not have any of these stamps . As it says on the mini sheet only 3 colleges had stamps. I had St Johns and Selwyn, but not Queens College
The early Alumni were not allowed to graduate from Cambridge back in the 1880s.
Later Alumni include Queen Margrethe of Denmark

I have found it increasingly difficult to find complete sheets. It's not easy to find Congress material period. As you say, the sheets are often split up so one has to search for all the odd ones which is very time consuming........but also fun of course !! I think the rest of the Bournemouth sheets are on page 1. Show us more if you have some !!

I may have more sheets somewhere but I'll need to go through some boxes. Meanwhile, here are a couple of interesting items for the 1940 Congress. The first is the original cellophane envelope in which the pair of labels came and the second elongated version, which I thought was a proof of some kind, but is described by Glenn Morgan as a bookplate that came with a dinner menu for a precursor Dinner in January 1940: centenary of penny black 2 by Daniel, on Flickr

The 50th Philatelic Congress of Great Britain, held under the auspices of the Manchester Central & Manchester Philatelic Societies, was in Buxton, Derbyshire from 4th to 7th June 1968. Mulready envelopes were used with advertising either side. The Postage One Penny Black version shown here, is postmarked with a Paid Buxton franking, date unclear, possibly 7th June 1968. The Postage Two Pence Blue is unfolded and is franked, much later, with a National Postal Museum frank for 22nd August 1979 making it a first day cover for the Rowland Hill stamp. This set is from the 29th Philatelic Congress of Great Britain held at Birmingham from 9th to 12th September 1947. 4 sheets in a folder and an envelope signed by the Congress Chairman. The stamps depict scenes from typical Birmingham Industries.
