... As Zuzu said before is this a Cinderella ? What we do know is that it is a label. We also know that it isn't a fantasy label because it was issued by a legitimate postal authority. What we don't seem to be clear on, at least in my mind, is the question: Are all labels Cinderellas? That brings us back to the definitional discussion. As one might expect, others will view the world differently.

Hungary: The "Three Pin Punctures" Anyone considering collecting this discipline will be endeavouring to collect 79 stamps in all. Aptly described by Mr. Jay Carrigan. US

I had done a preliminary sort on my loose Hungary before deciding that I needed to proceed alphabetically when cataloging my worldwide collection so these were close at hand. Unfortunately, they'll have to wait to be identified and logged until after Ive completed the D through G countries.

Nice ones Steve! "until after Ive completed the D through G countries" I suppose you are aware, collectors rarely see age past 105, will you make it to "H" by then ? I guess you can pass all your "Z" Zimbabwe over to me.

Probably not -- I just realized that the first of four albums I completed didn't include Czechoslovakia. Czechoslovakia is done -- I just may finish before I apply for social security!!!

Nice Stamps Steve ! I have made a special page for these, and keep all that come across my desk. Richard C Witt has a page courtesy of Riga Stamps www.cinderellas.info/wittcoll/collection.htmLet us know before your 105th Birthday, and I'll send a card.

The Hungarian postal administration came up with the idea to perforate the 1921-24 issues with a pyramid shaped 3 hole punch applied to the 2 central columns of the stamp sheets. They felt this would discourage dealers and collectors who would then pay the postal admin a 10% surcharge over face value to obtain full un-punched sheets. This seemed a viable alternative to loosing 20% in punched stamps which they felt collectors would have no interest in. It did work (temporarily) and most punched stamps were discarded after postal use by collectors but eventually they became very collectable. Specialized catalogs will list them as the Hármas Lyukkal (with 3 holes) stamps with a premium CV. There are some rare inverted pyramids and apparently no forgeries - for now. I suspect that they may be undervalued as they are rarely seen on auctions. They should not be confused with the C172 which was 3 hole punched for regular mail use. Other country stamps show up with the pyramid punch but these are most likely remainders or revenues.

Here is my sole contribution to this thread on Hungarian stamps. I think this is all I have! Issued in small sheetlets of 3, which perusing this thread is usual for a number of their issues. Bought at the Capex '78 show in Toronto 40 (!!) years ago! I missed celebrating the 40th Anniversary of the show a couple weeks ago! I tried the PMGS StampFix for the first time on this - not too bad! Of course, this is yet another project - re-mount on 8-½ x 11 card stock. They are on over-sized, multiple-holed Lindner album pages, that used to hold my Jersey collection. I bought so many stamps from most of the different countries at the show, plus a few from dealers. There were scads of displays, the only one I remember though is Canada's #3, the 12p black Queen Victoria It was my 1st time attending a stamp show & it was amazing. I just wish I had taken photos as well.

25 years worth of stamps from Hungary have dropped in my mailbox. The 70's & 80's appeared there today, I'll post the others later. I think I posted 1960 elsewhere, but may as well here too. I'll probably buy the 90's as well, but may wait until the new year. I am missing 1970, 1971, 1986, 1987 & 1989, so I'll be one the lookout for those one of these days when I get them mounted. That probably won't be for a while as I'll need even more mounts to get them all up. Lots of singles, souvenir sheets, a few strips and a booklet or two are included in these offerings from Magyar Posta. No imperforates unfortunately... EDIT: The year packs are in sealed packages, and they all look to be in excellent shape. 1960

1961 It's going to take a bit of work to get all these stamps mounted! (Not to mention putting them up in here on TSF!)

I have been talking a lot about my present inventory of Magyar Posta stamps and the fact I was sending all my "dups" to brightonpete because I know he bought the 1960s etc. A first mailing to Pete is on the way to Ontario as we speak. After working on Hungary today, I am up to 677 stamps in Inventory and have another 200 "dups" for Pete (last stamp is year 1948). As soon as I finish the Officials, more dups will accompany my 2nd mailing. My Ontario friend will not only have more dups but they are individually numbered, Scott cat. saving him lots of time in the Catalog !!!! I am eager he receives the 1st shipment of older stamps - a gesture for a Canadian friend. I already have the 677 stamps in Album as my late dad bought these in the 1960s as part of many collections I own presently. René

Hoping they arrive soon! At least before the onslaught of auction lots that'll see around 3,000 German and a bunch of other stuff arrive. It has been so long now that I have lost track of what is incoming. But I thank you, renden for sending me those early Hungarian stamps!

Great stuff here, both René ( renden) and Peter ( brightonpete). You are very kind, René, and Peter, you now have some very nice material to look forward to! For me, as a pre-1930 WW collector, Hungary is one of those countries for which I have acquired a lot of stamps from "penny box" or packet sources, so I think I have a lot of common stamps in poor condition. I have never been able to face up to going through the lot, and they remain unsorted to this day. I will try to take some inspiration from the two of you and find the resolve to do something about these in the New Year. In fact, that reminds me that it is nearing the time to think about reviving our philatelic New Year's resolution thread in the next few weeks....

It will still be some time in the future, as I doubt that I will have time over my Christmas break to do any real work on these. But if I do decide to do it, I will bring the accumulation back to France with me and start to work on it during 2019. So, René, when it comes to Hungary do you need any of the 1940s overprinted and surcharged issues? My Dad had a lot of those in his collection, and they are outside of my time period, so....
