Seeing that my collection of Canadian pictorial cancels is growing, I feel that like Japan and Taiwan, Canada also deserves a thread on its own. In theory, every 'real' post office can have at least one pictorial cancel designed for it. By 'real' post office, I mean those offices that serve solely as post offices, excluding those that are affiliated with pharmacies or other stores. The 'real' ones typically have a more restricted business hours, whereas the contractor (sous-traitant) post offices tend to open until 9pm and on the weekend to allow residents to pick up their mails.
This is one of the 5 pictorial cancels available at BP Montreal Place d'Armes.
Run dates: 1 January 2021 to 31 December 2032. It shows Montreal cityscape as seen from the other side of the river. The Mount Royal Cross on the right side of the design marks the highest point on the island of Montreal. Usually at night, it is lit in white. Only on special occasion such as death of a pope, would it be lit in purple. By city law, no buildings in Montreal are allowed to be taller than this cross. From right to left, the Montreal skyscrapers featured in this cancel are: - 1000 de La Gauchetière (currently the tallest building in Montreal by floor height) - 1501 McGill College (the top pyramid can be lit in different colours) - I am guess this is Marriott Château Champlain, but I am not sure ...

This is another one of the 5 pictorial cancels available at BP Montreal Place d'Armes. Run dates: 1 January 2021 to 31 December 2032. It shows the Clock Tower in Old Port and Jacques-Cartier Bridge that is visible from the Clock Tower. The dock area is a popular location for fireworks viewing. During the annual fireworks festival, the whole area would be packed with tourists and once it's over, it can take a long time for vehicles (including bikes) to cross the street because there are too many pedestrians. On the occasion of Montreal's 375th anniversary in 2017, LED lights were installed on the bridge, making it a new nighttime landmark of Montreal. (Before the installation of these lights, it was just a major bridge in Montreal.)

This is another one of the 5 pictorial cancels available at BP Montreal Place d'Armes. Run dates: 1 January 2019 to 31 December 2030. This cancel shows the tallest ferris wheel in Canada, La Grande Roue de Montréal, that was built at the Old Port for the 375th anniversary of the city.

This is another one of the 5 pictorial cancels available at BP Montreal Place d'Armes. This cancel shows Notre-Dame Basilica in Old Montreal. It's not the oldest nor the biggest church in Montreal, but is by far the most popular one as touristic attraction, all because of its elaborated interior in the Neo-Gothic style. It's also the only church in Montreal (and perhaps in the entire Canada) that requires paying admission fee to visit. Run dates: 1 January 2020 to 31 December 2031. Note that the design of this cancel has been carried out by at least two rubber stamps (each of them with a lifespan of 12 years).

This is the last one of the 5 pictorial cancels available at BP Montreal Place d'Armes. It pictures the gate of Montreal Chinatown (or China 'Street' to be more accurate?). Run dates: 1 January 2019 to 31 December 2030.

Pictorial cancel of VEGREVILLE STN MAIN in Vegreville (AB): It incorporates the image of the gigantic pysanky (Ukrainian-style Easter Egg) sculpture by Paul Maxym Sembaliuk that was commissioned in 1975 by the town of Vegreville to commemorate its high Ukrainian Canadian population.

@linda we too missed the Bluenose II, it was out on tour, but we caught up to her in Mahone Bay. You couldn't bike this year, only the main highway is open as the secondary roads are washed out from the July floods. They have had a rough summer, first fires then the floods.

What I collect: I collect world wide up to 1965 with several specialty albums added due to volume of material I have acquired. At this point I am focused on Canada and British America. I am always on the lookout for stamps and covers with postmarks from communities in Queens County, Nova Scotia. I do list various goods including stamps occasionally on eBay as hdm50

I do not as a rule collect modern but due to some posts on various topics on TSF I have started keeping some incoming mail covers. I looked through the little stash and found these recent Nova Scotia pictorial postmarks. The first one is from my home town of Liverpool that is known as the Port of the Privateers. I regret that the privateer sailing ship is not clearer. For those that do not know a privateer was basically a pirate licensed by the government of the day during the war of 1812 against the USA to capture ships from there. The ships of Liverpool were very good at this game bringing home many prizes. This one is from Port Williams and features New England Planters with a farm scene. This is cute one is another from Port Williams, NS promoting the community as the Biggest Little Port in the World.

For "schitzengiggles", I wonder if there's any stamp, postmark, postcard, cacheted cover or maxicard related to a certain locality in Canada whose name starts with D, and ends in O.
In an unrelated story, I received once a cover addressed to me, with an MPP postmark, from the real locality of Intercourse, Pennsylvania.
There are many funny, or OBJ, geographic names around the world.

One of the 7 pictorial cancels available at BP Montreal Place-Desjardins. This cancel that celebrates Montreal's 375th anniversary should be in use since 2017. It depicts Montreal's most iconic landmarks, including the Mount Royal Cross (top), Jacques-Cartier Bridge (centre left), Olympic Stadium (centre right), and St. Joseph Oratory (bottom)

One of the 7 pictorial cancels available at BP Montreal Place-Desjardins. Another cancel from 2017 celebrates Canada's 150th anniversary. The images in this cancel are not related to Montreal. The one at the bottom left is the Chateau Frontenac in Quebec City.

One of the 7 pictorial cancels available at BP Montreal Place-Desjardins. This one is the strangest of all -- no one outside of this post office really knows about its existence. It celebrates 'the international year of crystallography' in 2014. The name of the post office is not inscribed in it.

I believe this is a relatively new cancel. It's available at a post office located within Montreal's Gay Village: BP Montreal C. I am not sure if the triangle refers to the pink triangle of LGBT culture, which is often seen upside down. But I already have the idea to get this cancel on my philagraph celebrating marriage equality!

One of the 7 pictorial cancels available at BP Montreal Place-Desjardins. This post office is located inside a building named after Desjardins -- a financial service cooperative, whose logo is a hexagon, hence the hexagonal shape of this cancel. The 7 small hexagons inside the cancel represent the 7 employees who work there. [Inside this building the hexagonal shapes are everywhere.]
