I like Nick Bantock's books and his use of stamps. Actual stamps were included in the following products: The Museum at Purgatory (hardback book), Griffin and Sabine Writing Box (stationery) and Capolan: Travels of a Vagabond Country (book and postcards). Some of these are getting expensive to buy. Here are stamps: Scan_20200701 by Daniel, on Flickr

I have that series of books and never noticed the stamps! I'll have to have another look through them now.

I have that series of books and never noticed the stamps! I'll have to have another look through them now. Hi, to clarify, they weren't issued with the Griffin and Sabine books. The Museum at Purgatory (hardback) is a completely separate book, ISBN 978-0002255363 , seems to be more readily available. Griffin and Sabine Stationery Box, ISBN 978-0811806411 , now very expensive. Capolan: Travels of a Vagabond Country, again a separate project and another boxed set, ISBN 978-0811815451 again, expensive. Daniel

Quite obvious, Londonbus1 ! Not like the 8 cliché's of the Thule Post. I see a missing dot here & there, but that is it. Nothing obvious, like it should be!

brightonpete....I agree. But then the Thule stamps are more than fantasy and of much better design and quality.

Here's a nice trio I found recently after a long search. Stated to be from the 1930's, very hard to find but I do have some info on these but have not yet found it ! These were given to a friend as a gift but I believe others exist........they are just so tough to pin down ! One day............... In the meantime, I give you William ! (Love the values!!)

This cover must have been sent by Nick Bantock himself. British born but lives or lived in the vicinity of Bowen Island, BC, Canada. It features a Sicmon Island stamp with a Katin postmark from his Griffin and Sabine books. The Canada Commonwealth Games 1988 stamp has been cancelled with a nice Bowen Island, BC handstamp. Unfortunately an additional dot matrix cancellation has been applied making it difficult to read any date. Scan_20201209 by Daniel, on Flickr

I've been on the lookout for one of these for many years. Long before TSF was born, cjd and I had discussed and debated about the stamp on another forum. Since that one sighting all those years ago none have been seen by me (or cjd). Now I have one. I purchased it more out of the memory of it's first online image than any particular fondness. Long live the King.

daniel ......undoubtedly modern but I never found out anything about it although I searched for hours after we first saw it. JeffS ....a great aircraft indeed stamphinger ......it cost me almost 10 GB Pounds which is more than I would normally spend on such an item these days. But I was looking for one for so long without even a whiff or a hint so just had to nab it ! It reminds me of Collin ( cjd) every time I see it !!

I just got a set of these very nice modern U.K. cinderellas, or “Artistamps,” produced in 2018 by Scott Thomson a.k.a Positively Postal. Looking forward to using some of them on outgoing mail and keeping the rest. They arrived in a lovely cover, too! (PS I think this is the right thread for this, but if not, admins feel free to move it.)

swvl .......that's fine. I met Scott at the Festival of Stamps in 2010, a very nice guy and very enthusiastic about his 'own stamps' ! We met whilst volunteering some hours on the Stamp Active stand at the International Exhibition. Some of the designs are very good. The one's you show carry a message of course. I just hope it doesn't fall on deaf ears ! Londonbus1

More on Nic Bantock's books: I finally opened them up to see what treasures lay inside. Mostly, a lot of envelopes stuck to pages with letters inside. The Museum at Purgatory had this sheet of (water activated) stamps, similar to what Daniel (daniel ) showed earlier...
The final book in my series is the 25th Anniversary Limited Edition of "Griffin & Sabine: An Extraordinary Correspondence," and inside, in the final pages was an envelope with these two items: a postcard and a sheet of self-adhesive stamps! Wooo!
The stamp on the postcard is part of the printing and not a separate stamp. (boo!)
It's amazing what one can find when one looks!

Below is an image of a fantasy cover from a fantasy ship USS Nicotine, posted at the non-existent Pittsburgh Naval Yard on Jan 12, 1935. Franking on the cover is a cigarette tax stamp cut to look like a tombstone. I have no information about the addressee and don't know if C. H. Wallace is a real person. It is a certainty, however, that this cover did not go through the mails. I bought it for its novelty.
After a little research, it turns out that U.S.S. Nicotine covers are not a one-off item. Starting in January of 1935 and ending in March 1935, a series of U.S.S. Nicotine covers turned up at the Western Stamp Collector and their images published in its Naval Covers column edited by Desmond Jagyi. Some of these covers may be seen on the Naval Postal Museum site www.navalcovermuseum.org/wiki/NICOTINE and a couple of other different ones in an article in the September 2009 issue of the Universal Ship Cancellation Society Log, page 18 by Greg Ciesielski. This cover is not pictured or mentioned in either reference.
The covers mysteriously stopped in March 1935 and no one knows to this day who produced them, although, the WSC's Naval Covers column editor Desmond Jagyi has been considered as a possible source.
Given the ship's name and the franking on this cover, I think I will put it in my small Tobacco and Smoking collection.

Another from the hand of Bruce Grenville (aka Henderson) ! The card a souvenir from the fantasy 'Antarctic Confederation of City Republics' of which 'Grahamia' was a small state within. I found the card at a sales table during the 2016 Cinderella Congress at the RPS in London. Does that mean that Bruce was there and I didn't know ? Probably not. The card, from 1979 when the land was discovered, was overprinted for the event as was label on the back side and with a nice Grahamia cancel for the 16th September !!! Some go to such great lengths to impress !

I do not know which of the categories your posting falls into Michael( Londonbus1), i.e. "Fantasy, Spoof and just plain silly", but I do know these two items brought a smile to my face.
Thanks for the showing...
Have fun and happy collecting!

An item that might have looked good as an Exhibition souvenir ! Sadly, it's only for the fantasy section. I am sure QV and KGVI would have approved ! (This image might be lying around in another topic somewhere. My apologies if this is so.)
