This sounds like quite a lot to fit into one category, but let's see how it goes. I will separate if there is a need to. Maybe other opinions before I/someone starts to post ?
Yeah !

I think unless you're specifically a collector of such things, it's unlikely that you would have very many of them in your collection. I have huge piles of stuff but almost nothing along these lines. I like to look at them, even though I very rarely try to buy them!

The simple British 'poached egg'. Surprised this hasn't shown up here I'll also add my Austrian 'teaching' stamp to the mix.

A bunch of my favourite Cinderellas just turned up on my keyboard waving banners and shouting Philatelic abuse at me. They demanded to know why I had neglected them and why I continue to post pictures of Postage stamps. Yes, they were angry ! They ordered me to produce a post about a Cinderella Stamp immediately or they would close all the windows on my Laptop ! I had no choice. So, to appease them I reached for nearest album of non-postage stamps (which was quite far away in the present climate) and took out the first one my tweezers ( or tongs depending on where you live) grabbed a hold of and this was it. A Dominican Republic 5c Unadopted Essay about which I have my doubts. But it is quite attractive if nothing else. (After this, it's back to stamps but not a word to those Cinderellas !)

Michael, thank goodness you did as the Cinderellas demanded! Who knows what would have become of you otherwise? All I can say is that this aspect of Cinderella was never mentioned in the fairy tales!

A Dominican Republic 5c Unadopted Essay about which I have my doubts. But it is quite attractive if nothing else. It is a fair representation of the actual issue but not the quality of a die proof or essay
According to the designer's bio; Dominican Republic 1880, engravings were transferred to stones and lithographed—1c, 2c, 15c unissued essay in gray-brown, 20c, 25c, 50c, 75c and 1p. Proofs of the ic, 25c and 50c were printed in red, the 2c, 20c, 75c and 1p in gray. No proofs were seen of the 5c and 10c. The unissued die essays of the 30c, 40c and 100c (or 1p) were printed in black.
However it is also noted at a later date that Typographed proofs also exist on diagonally laid cream envelope paper. Those seen are 5c blue, 10c red-orange and 45c red-violet cliches for stamped envelopes, and each design was printed separately on the paper.
So you may have the latter?

B & W Sample stamps depicting an 'Ancient Briton- The Bearded Man'. Imperf Pairs. Well, Jens ( barbu ), I knew that the "bearded man" was lurking here on TSF somewhere, and now I finally found him! Jon ( blaamand ) and René ( renden ), what do you think? Should we induct this guy into the French Numeral Postmarks Club? I do really like his beard, even if it is not as good as the one Jens has....

Another from PTT in Berne.
I acquired the following set some time ago. The Swiss PTT refers to these as trial prints and they are used to test the operation of its rotary printing presses and other aspects of stamp production. The brochure provides a complete description of their uses. All of the smaller stamps in multiple colors are rotary line engraving and the scenic views are rotogravure.
A tremendous catalog and study of these issues is available online entitled Swiss Trial Prints by Derrick M. Slate with the assistance of John L. Larson at swiss-philately.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2017/03/Swiss_Trial_Prints.compressed.pdf . The file is huge and takes some time to download, but is well worth it. It is recommended that the file be downloaded and saved to your computer.

Differences were inevitable so long as designers had to turn over final production to an engraver/lithographer. But I thought photo offset smothered that distinction. And these are radical differences. Someone must have been furious; fit-to-be-tied furious.

This is something that I have been after for some years. It is from Charles Whiting of the Beaufort House Press who was a renowned printer of stationery using compound printing and embossing. He even entered the Treasury Competition of 1839 for a uniform penny post and was one of four winners, although, of course, none was chosen. His examples are usually very expensive but this sheet was produced for inclusion in The Arts Journal for January 1848. Even so, I got this very cheaply. It has a security print on the reverse, the third picture, so as not to be confused with any other essays that he produced. Rembrandt Intaglio Printing Company Ltd, Peace and Commerce Essays Variously attributed to Harrisons or Bradbury Wilkinson (seemingly the usual suspects), these essays are confirmed in Glenn Morgan's Dummy Stamps issue 36, 2014 as being printed by Rembrandt Intaglio Printing Company of Lancaster in the 1910s in photogravure. As described with accompanying letters (stating that they were shown to the Post Offfice) in a Phillips sale in 1991. British definitive size, they read Peace and Commerce along the top and are denominated Two 2 Pence along the bottom. Relatively scarce. 9 examples shown here in various colours and borders. A good lot of dummy stamps/essays from Bradbury Wilkinson, Harrisons and Eyre & Spottiswoode. Top 2 rows Bradbury Wilkinson: Ancient Briton dummies, an Edward VII essay and 2 King Charles I dummy stamps. Then a Harrisons colour test sheetlet. Bottom row:first 4 are Harrisons and the next 4 are from Eyre and Spottiswoode who were also book publishers and were the King's/Queen's Printer for Royal documents.
