Great stuff! I especially like the mule barometer and the skewed cancel on the back.

I just came across this listing on ebay. This postcard from 1912 includes an explanation of the swastika symbol.

That's awesome! You going to purchase that zuzu? You should ...and send it to me...lol Seriously that would be a neat addition to anyone's collection if not only to start up a philatelic conversation! Thank you for showing that neat card Zuzu.

Nah, I was just sharing the link. Sadly, I am not able to separate the negative symbolism ascribed to the swastika by the Nazis, and I get a sick feeling in my stomach whenever I see one.

I, too, have deep feelings of disgust about the evils of Nazism. But as a symbol of life and good luck, the swastika has a 3000+ year history, and in some religions (Buddhism and Hinduism, for example) it is still used as a positive symbol. Perhaps, someday, say 500 years or so from now, the positive connotation will triumph and the horror of the holocaust will not be the first thing that comes to mind, not that anyone should ever forget the holocaust.

I would agree and it's the history that counts. "He who doesn't study the past is bound to repeat it" -Rick Harrison (I'm positive someone will correct me on the quote too -lol)

When I lived down in London Ont. many years ago (when my kids were small) across the street from my bank was a row of old storefronts with apartments above. Standing in line, waiting for the teller one day I realized that up in the corner of one of the buildings the bricks had been laid out in a swastika pattern. I was, needless to say surprised. The building predated the Nazis by several decades, so I know had nothing to do with the movement, but I didn't know the history of the symbol at the time, so I found it pretty curious. The ironic thing was someone (the owner, no doubt) had painted a dark square over the area of bricks, perhaps in an attempt to hide them. But that only made them more obvious.

In Ontario, Canada we have a town called Swastika Indeed you do! Are you, by any chance, old enough to have seen the big white entrance gate to the town Gravenhurst? There is a picture of it floating around the internet someplace. I'll have to dig it up I suppose? There is also a swastika on a Newfoundland stamp.
