Here is a cover which appears to have the Montreal Gazette printing of the 3c Small Queen, perf 12 x 12.3 (Unitrade & Scott 41a). The date is right, late 1888 and the color appears Rose Carmine to me. Of course it may show different on the viewers monitor. My actual Kiusalas and mathematical calculations put the perfs at closer to 65.5 x 64 rather than 66 x 64. I also took an 1897 Jubilee, which is a consistent 66, and lined it up, and it does not quite match the horizontal side on my stamp. Port Hope, Ont Dec 23, 1888

Very interesting BC, another stamp just over the 12.25 listed in the Unitrade and commonly noted in other sources. The colour on this specimen is closer to the other 12x12.25 examples I have. It is though, somewhat brighter than stamp we were previously discussing. If I have some time today I will scan some of my other 3-cent specimens.

Here are my better 3-cent examples, the ones from my main collection. #37
#1 - Perforation is just under 12, so I am saying 11.9. The colour looks a little oxidized, I am thinking the bottom of the stamp is the true shade. First Ottawa printing. #2 - The 37b as seen previously. Perfs measure 12 almost right on. First Ottawa printing. #3 - Perf 11.75x12 would put it in the early Montreal printings. Colour is on the duller/redder side. #4 - Perf 11.75x12 again, so early Montreal. Colour though, is brighter and more orange that the #3 example. #5 - The stamp that started the thread perf ~12.25 all around. Normally this would make it a #41 but I feel the colour is closer to the rest of the #37s I have. #41
#1 - Perf 12 all around, nice 1897 squared circle cancel, so most probably a second Ottawa printing. #2 - Perf 12x12.25 with nice clear margins. A beautiful used jumbo copy with a light postmark. Could well be a Montreal Gazette printing. #3 - Perf 12x12.25 with a great SON Barrie CDS. The perf measurement says it could be a Gazette printing, but the 1897 postmark is from late in the second Ottawa period. Could be a late usage I suppose. It should be noted the #41s look a little more orange in real life than in my scans, but this likely will depend on your monitor set up as well. I have a number of other 3-cent examples in my 'study' collection, most are likely #41 perf 12 or 12x12.25. All the seconds in the study collection are pretty close in colour to the #41s I have posted.

Excellent sort Westy! On my monitor your stamps match closely to my color squares. I think your first stamp is leaning towards the dull rose shade. Like you, I am a beginner on small queens and I will be posting more of my results.

I am just spacing out small queens for now.Back to one to the page format which will leave(I hope)room to put them in order eventually. It also will not seem so overwhelming ...one page/one stamp. And I thought I was done with early pages!!

I am thinking of reorganizing my early pages as well. I don't have enough room to expand my Large Queens at all, and the Small Queen section is getting rather full. This will probably entail redoing everything between the pence issues and the admirals.

I'll come do your early pages if you can come do mine.I am in the middle of Admirals right now and while one to the page may seem crazy that's the way it ends up.pretty sure small queens will be the same or even one to two pages.
