The Joy of collecting. How do you explain it? Wanted these fellows for years, now I have them. (excuse the dribble) They are so fragile, just a quick introduction to the scanner, then back under protection. Christmas Snails 1961-1962

Thanks Zuzu, I am sure the designer would be tickled pink.

Perf : 12.5 (On 3 sides only)
Is that how it was issued? or is this an error.

How it was issued Admin, There are quite a few stamps worldwide with strange or part perf formats.
With Australia, perforation of Souvenir sheets on the face of it, is futile, As Souvenir sheets must only be used in their entirety, using stamps from a sheet is illegal.

That is different. I see the US Souvenir sheets cut up and used every which way. I didn't know that either about the Australia S.S.'s.

Hi Rodney
That is interesting that one cannot use the stamps in a souvenir sheet. It is the first time I have heard of that rule.

Hi Rodney That is interesting that one cannot use the stamps in a souvenir sheet. It is the first time I have heard of that rule. Jerry B G'day Jerry, It's only been a recent thing (possibly 1980's onwards ?) If I recall, it was from a collector that worked at Australia Post. Possibly the directive is in the Australia Post Bulletin somewhere.
It creates a oddity, one of the Australian sheets has a stamp that is valid only for Norfolk Island. (from memory only)Perhaps my memory chip is faulty I cannot find anything that substantiates, only this............ Can imperforate stamps be used for postage? Yes, so long as they are posted in their original format. If they are included in a minisheet they are valid for postage, so long as the minisheet is intact. The perforations are one of several security features included in a stamp. Imperforate stamps cannot be cut out and placed on mail for postage, as it makes it difficult to detect postal fraud.

Cuba Stamp Packet The scan does not adequately show, the cellophane has shrunk and wrinkled the item. Cellophane (used in Crystal Mounts ["the world's best stamp mount"]) their words not mine. Cellophane seems to me to protect stamps, never seen any damage, other than that by shrinkage.

I think with Crystal Mounts, it was the shrinkage of the cellophane and also the adhesive used that caused the damage.

I still owe you big time for the Scott Specialised every time I open it, which is rather often, I see your name emblazoned. What are you collecting these days? can I assist?

Here is a bigger shot of the 1940 Postal Tax, RA3 in the back of the back of the book in Scott. An allegorical Health defending children. The tuberculosis postal tax stamps were required for letters sent in December and January. This stamp was issued December 1, 1940. I have not found a definitive answer about what happened to it on February 1. Were they demonetized, and replaced with the next design the next year? I don't seek out Cuban covers, so I don't know if you find 1938's RA1 on a December 1940 cover? I'm rather fond of this design. Certainly my favorite of the Postal Tax issues.

1947 Steiner Page 28 Note : The trilogy of Tobacco Stamps, were redrawn in 1950. The later series were slightly smaller, and can be identified, by measurments of 21mm x 25mm. (1947 measure 22.5mm across)
