More Dune type support came today. As a Gabon / Congo / Cameroun / Chad etc. collector, that looks neat! Not sure if I follow on the "Dune type", as doesn't that term usually apply to areas like the Trucial States?

Yes it applies to the Trucial States but as a lack of a term for the places that picked up the kinds of issues as what came out of the after the 1970s I use it for the latter countries too

Thanks for the info jdtrue66

Just arrived today...
The 2022 Concise in now on its way now, by courier though. It must be a hefty catalogue! I just hope it can get to me, because I gave them my postal address.

Look at what arrived today! Yay!
Also arriving, my Scribonius silver denarius from 154 BC, with a Canadian dime alongside to show scale. I always wanted something old, now I have it.
Now to find something to house it so I don't lose it!

I have a minor coin collection, mainly specialty coins from the Canadian Mint. Star Trek, beaver, various recent year sets, and a few older silver dollars marking significant years. I did have a lot of coins, but found them to be just too expensive! So I just collect what interests me, much like recent Canadian stamps!

The latest addition to my library is Cinderella Stamps, by L.N. and M. Williams (1970). The book was edited by James Negus and published by William Heinemann Ltd (London); it is Number Two in the Heinemann Philatelic Series.

The latest addition to my library is Cinderella Stamps, by L.N. and M. Williams (1970). Not a new addition at all, but I can also show a book by these authors. In my case it fits two of my collections - apart from stamp collecting, I also enjoy book collecting (or book owning, more to the point I suppose). I'm always pleased to find an old Pelican book (1956 first printing in this case) and if I can get one dealing with stamps, then so much the better! Ryan

Don't worry, I love it and old books in general. I actuly have a first English language edition of Never ending story which is my most valuable item as well as whole bunch of other old books sitting on my shelf.

Received this recent auction win yesterday -- an unused copy of U.S. International Postal Rates, 1872-1996, by Anthony Wawrukiewicz and Henry Beecher. For $15.00, I think I got a very good deal!

I purchased a used Linn's Almanac (1980 edition) to get some country descriptions for my ASFEC (A Stamp For Every Country) project. I found this information was also on the Linn's Stamp News web site but it is an interesting look back at 1980 just after the bubble burst in stamp collecting in part due to inflation and following recession. The stamp popularity polls may offer some insight on opinions in the 50s. In those days it was all mail in votes.

I wonder why Linn’s readers in 1949 were so down on that Edgar Allan Poe stamp. I like that one!

Another country for which I wanted a specialized catalogue is off the list. This is the last edition edited by Valera before he sold the catalogue to Aurelio Blanco. The most recent edition of the Blanco is from 2009, but I understand that it is much less detailed than the final Valera editon, so I went for this when I saw it on AbeBooks. Almost 500 pages of info on all aspects of Venezuelan philately

djcmh OMG you have a real jewel there with that book. I’ve been watching the used book sites for a few others but no joy. Kudos for finding the book! Some of the best stamp hobby money I’ve ever spent went for literature.

Some of the best stamp hobby money I’ve ever spent went for literature. I got lucky. This one was from a dealer in Buenos Aires. Shipped via DHL only took 4 days to reach me. Specialized catalogues and monographs are really good investments if you can find them. The sad thing is more and more specialist literature is out of print so the knowledge they contain is at risk of loss for future generations. One reason why I am bringing this specialized content to Colnect is to make more and more collectors aware that there is much more to collect than what Scott, Gibbons, Michel and Yvert list.

Just arrived today from jolly ol' Engalund!
It's not quite in the condition I was advised, which was Very Good. Split binding, and as I flipped through the pages, had to drop it from the stench! It is now opened by a window for a few weeks! Well, as long as it is awful to smell, it'll stay there! It's the 2nd edition, printed in MCMXLIV.
Old books and old stamps! At least MY old stamps don't stink!

Arrived from Nordfrim last week, an aid to my burgeoning Belgium collection.
I also bought a packet of 400 Belgium at the same time too, more commemoratives than definitives in this one by the looks of it.

Trivia question: How do you pronounce the catalogue publisher Michel? I've always pronounced it "Mishell" but last week during our British Empire Study Group meeting we heard Steve Zirinsky pronounce it "Mickle". Out of curiosity, does anyone know the correct pronunciation? Rob

I always said "Mee-shell" which is the French pronunciation of "Michael". Google gives it a "mee-shell" pronunciation.
I notice media reporters mis-pronouncing a number of words, trying to get a word changed. Doctor's managed to change "capillary"!
Maybe that is what that guy is trying to do as well!

I've been saying Meeshell but, of course, it's actually a German company and Mickle or Mickel is indeed correct, see this link

I’ve always said “mich’ el making the ich sound like the word German word for “I” “ich” - that very back of the palate gargling sound, almost in your throat. English doesn’t have that phoneme.

I should have also mentioned this Michel is a hardcover. You open it, and it stays put. Awesome!
Although even more awesomer (if there is such a word!) is Unitrade's spiral bound!

I pronounced it like your link (consider this matches philatelia) but do not consider Mickle or Mickel as a good English phonetic equivalent. My ears do not hear a very hard c as "ick" that I read as a very hard c. There is that "s" sound in it. For example, an English person would likely pronounce Mickel like the word nickel.
