Just got an auction book in the mail and this stamp was on the envelope. The T is partially missing on the 6c stamp. It also has a Nonprofit Org. precancel on it. Anyone seen either of these before? Little dash in the SA of USA, too.

Little dash in the SA of USA, too. As soon as a stamp has been through the mail, I treat all oddities with suspicion. All sorts of scuffs can be experienced. Having said that, yours look clean, unless recorded as a variety, I'd personally treat as an EFO (Errors Freaks and Oddities)

It also has a Nonprofit Org. precancel on it. Anyone seen either of these before? This Bureau precancel is listed in Scott as #2126a due to the fact that it isn't tagged. Scott Specialized adds a bit of text to note that the stamp says "Nonprofit Org." - that's missing from my regular Scott. For a catalogue with illustrations of this type of precancel, you would need the Precancel Stamp Society's Catalog of United States Bureau Precancels. They're listed in the back of that book as "National Types" since they were valid at all U.S. post offices and weren't specific to a single city. Ryan

This forever stamp is from one of the postcards that I received in 2012: USA 2010 Lady Liberty forever - with TriboroNY-08Mar2012 postmark by Mick Taylor, on Flickr Although it is printed with the date 2011, the stamp was actually issued towards the end of 2010. (Is that normal practice?) In looking at the wikipedia entry for this stamp, I was reminded that the post office made a bit of a faux pas: The stamp shows the replica of the Statue of Liberty located at the New York-New York Hotel and Casino on the Las Vegas Strip rather than the original Statue of Liberty in New York. [2] The error was not noticed until March 2011. The error was identified by Sunipix, a stock photo agency in Texas. Ten and a half billion of the error stamps were produced.[1] The mistake is the largest run of an error on a postage stamp. In 2013, sculptor Robert S. Davidson sued the Postal Service for copyright infringement.[3]Oops.

Until I looked it up in the stampworld.com database, I had no idea that this owl forever stamp was part of the Harry Potter set. (I must admit that I don't know much about Harry Potter, but as the Major told Agent Cooper, "The owls are not what they seem.") This stamp was released in 2013, but mailed to me in the latter part of 2014. US-HarryPotterOwl-withRichmondVA04September2014 by Mick Taylor, on Flickr

Don't forget Scott 2520 (the other booklet stamp). APS has created downloadable album pages for the nondenominated U.S. postage stamps that includes their Scott numbers.

Is anyone other than Mick and my Mother a diehard Elvis fan? I received this in today on an anniversary card from my Mother. This latest in a string of Elvis stamps was issued in Memphis, Tennessee on August 12, 2015. The self-adhesive forever stamp, Scott 5009, was printed by Ashton Potter and is from a pane of 16.

U.S. Sc#2433 World Stamp Expo '89 Souvenir Sheet The WORLD STAMP EXPO Souvenir Sheet features four reproductions of the 90-cent Lincoln stamp issued in 1869. The sheet contains a version of the stamp as it appeared originally and three trial color proofs. In 1869, the 90-cent Lincoln stamp was the highest value US stamp. As of November, 1989, ninety cents met the 1-ounce rate for international airmail. This is the first souvenir sheet issued by the Postal Service since the one commemorating the Sixth International Philatelic Exhibition in 1966. Designed by Richard D. Sheaff, the stamps were printed by the Bureau of the Engraving and Printing in the offset/intaglio process (D Press). Reference: Postal Bulletin (November 2, 1989)

The 5-dollar stamp with the image of Benjamin Franklin was the highest value in the Third Bureau Series. Like the 2-dollar stamp, it is bi-color, having a green frame and black vignette. While the stamp was issued for use on heavy items or valuable items that required registration with substantial indemnity, the fact is that $5.00 was a substantial amount of money when the stamp was issued in August 1918 (and throughout its lifetime), and so demand for this stamp was limited. Even though a replacement 5-dollar stamp was issued in 1923, the Franklin stamp remained current and was issued to postmasters through fiscal year 1933. Over 296,650 of the 5-dollar Franklin stamps were issued, and examples are quite scarce. This example from my US collection includes a perfin and really nice margins though a bit rough on a few of the perfs.

Walt Whitman (1819-1892) appears on the 5-cent Famous American Poets stamp, issued February 20, 1940. Whitman was one of the few poets of his era to depart from a conservative style, making frequent use of rambling blank verse and free verse. His prolific output culminated in the anthology "Leaves of Grass." - AragoCalled the “Father of Free Verse,” Walt Whitman’s controversial style captured the imagination of his readers. Featured on U.S. #867, Whitman spent years constantly updating his best-known work – the masterpiece poetry collection called “Leaves of Grass.” His poem, “O Captain! My Captain!” gave voice to a nation’s grief following the assassination of Abraham Lincoln. Whitman had an intense personality. Legends and stories of his wandering lifestyle were so compelling that nearly a century later they influenced the “Beat Generation” of American writers in the 1950s and 60s. Whitman’s forceful physical presence inspired his friend Bram Stoker to use him as a model for the character Dracula. - Mystic StampFor those of you who like myself are fans of the Robin Williams move, "Dead Poets Society" the phrase "O Captain! My Captain!" was penned by Whitman. A few or my favorite Walt Whitman quotes: "Keep your face always toward the sunshine - and shadows will fall behind you." "I have learned that to be with those I like is enough." "I no doubt deserved my enemies, but I don't believe I deserved my friends." USPS Priority Mail 2-Day rate... $11.35. I just love it when fellow collectors know how to frank a package. This arrived about 4 years ago - I don't recall what was in the package but I recently came across this while digging through a large envelope of covers and packages received from other collectors.

I was pretty excited when I got to this postcard in my pile o' stuff to be processed.
USA 1981 Nondenominated B rate "Eagle" stamp. I think this is Scott 1820 - the coil variety Used on postcard from Bakersfield, CA to Rio Nido, CA on 3 July 1981. This stamp was issued in March 1981: In 1981 the Postal Rate Commission proposed an increase in postage rates. This proposal was accepted “under protest” by the Postal Service. Subsequently, the USPS released the “B” stamp until sufficient quantities of the 18¢ stamp could be printed. The “B” stamp is identical to the “A” stamp except the color and the letter designation. (from "Nondenominated Postage Stamps of the United States, 2011, American Philatelic Society. Online here.) The postage rate was increased again just seven months later, necessitating the printing of the C Eagle. As the postcard rate at the time of mailing was only 12c ( source), and the value of the B Eagle was 18c, the sender overpaid. Still, I imagine that (unfortunately) this probably not that rare, as a lot of people probably had a fair amount of these stamps on hand after the rate increase. Still, I think it is pretty cool.

This non-denominated stamp featuring an Eastern Tiger Swallowtail Butterfly was issued June 1, 2015 in Kansas City, Missouri (Scott 4999). The stamp pays the first class one ounce non-machineable surcharge (71c). The self-adhesive stamp was printed by Ashton Potter and sold in a pane of 20 -- it will not soak.
