Thank you REL1948. So far that is a one-time video presentation. I have aspirations of doing more at some future date but my workload for the past 7 months or so has been so much that I sometimes have no motivation to work on stamp collecting let alone follow up on social media.

The 2021 Tap Dance stamps (set of five) weren't my favorite, but I was happy to find this one on a piece of mail recently. (Truth be told, I'm happy to find any recent US issue with a genuine regular-use cancel!) I've mentioned elsewhere how much I like the Yogi Berra stamp from last summer. Clean, classic design. Definitely pleased to see this one.

I really like the current low-denomination fruit definitive series that started around 2016. All of the stamps feature art by the illustrator John Burgoyne, who has a simple, classic style that I like. Here are the first five by denomination. The 1c Apples, 2c Lemons, and 3c Strawberries all showed up on regular mail in the past year or so. I have to confess I sent the 4c Blueberries and 5c Grapes on a letter to myself, since I had those handy and wanted canceled examples. This leaves me keeping an eye out for the 10c Pears to complete the set — or any further issues in this series.

This leaves me keeping an eye out for the 10c Pears to complete the set — or any further issues in this series. Well, that didn't take long! Just a week after I posted this, I opened my mailbox to find a nicely canceled 10c Pears stamp on an envelope from an eBay seller. I was prepared to wait much longer to find one of these, since they seem (in my experience) less frequent on mass mailings and such than the lower values. Here's the complete fruit salad, for now.

New batch of upcoming USPS issues announced today includes some good ones: a sheet of 10 Peanuts characters to celebrate Charles M. Schultz's centenary, and a single design for the James Webb Space Telescope. I enjoyed watching the telescope launch last December, and Peanuts is very popular in my house, so I'm looking forward to making covers with these when they are issued (dates are still TBD). Pleasant surprise to see the announcement today!

Yesterday, for the first time, one of the Flags on Barns (10c) Presorted Standard definitive coil stamps arrived in my mailbox. This self-adhesive coil stamp, featuring a white barn with gambrel roof (Scott 5686), is one of four stamps in the set issued April 14, 2022 in Halifax, Pennsylvania.

............ and sometimes the unexpected. My travels to charity shops this morning resulted in what you see here plus a much larger framed and glazed arrangement showing Dorothy Wilding's definitives (U.K.) - but since I have those in spades I settled for just Mr. Henry David Thoreau which believe is Scott 1327. As all the guys over the pond will know, this is the 5c. issue from July 1967 commemorating 150 years after his birth. He's now described as a transcendentalist (a thinker) and revered by all for his philosophical writings - especially his time at Walden Pond and the book 'WALDEN' which came out of that experience. Do people think this is a full sheet - it totals 50 stamps - so not sure but it could be. Apparently the total print run was 111,850,000. I will remove from the glazing and frame later today or tomorrow perhaps. thanks for looking.

paul1 , Technically, this would be referred to as a "pane." The stamp was printed from plates of 200 subjects in four panes of 50. Check it for tagging (short-wave UV)-- if omitted, the value is significant.

thanks tomiseksj - Steve. I do have a reasonable quality u.v. torch which I carry around for those occasions I find uranium glass. Will use the torch later today - at the moment the heat here is enervating and v. boring and sticky. From what you're saying Steve, I assume this issue was printed on possibly luminescent paper or with luminescent ink to facilitate automated mail processing? I shall look for fluorescence then? Sorry for ignorance - I don't normally collect States material.

coming back to the Thoreau 5c. Pix now attached showing paper reaction to u.v. light - seems to create a whitish glow, so am assuming this is luminescent paper producing a fluorescent glow as a result of the ultra violet ?? Also attached are pix showing the selvedge postie promoting the States Zip Code, and the No. 29145 which may be the plate serial No., but not sure - so guidance please. I could be wrong but the brown discolouration around edges and perfs. may be the result of this paper being less than 100% acid free - might that be about right?

The tagging substance, applied to U.S stamps after printing, may be viewed under short-wave ultraviolet light. It will either glow orange-red or yellow-green. The Thoreau should glow yellow-green under short-wave UV as below. To my knowledge, pre-phosphored paper was introduced in the 1990s. Pre-phosphored paper had the tagging substance applied as the paper is being made.

thanks - having now checked my u.v. torch for its wavelength spec. it seems I have the wrong torch for examining short-wave u.v. as per tagging on this stamp. My torch emits wavelength at 320 - 400 nm. which is great for checking uranium/vaseline glass - it produces a marvelous green/yellow glow, but for checking the tagging on phosphored paper and to get the green glow you've shown apparently I need a wavelength of 200 - 280 nm. So shall have to wait until I have the correct torch with which to re-check my 'pane' - the date of printing of which was c. late 1960s possibly. thanks again for the help Steve.

The second of four (10c) presorted standard Flags on Barns stamps arrived in my mailbox yesterday on a solicitation from a window manufacturer. Dubbed "white barn in winter," it is Scott 5685 (April 14, 2022).

When I first started out with this hobby, I was of the opinion that I would only be interested in GB and Empire stamps.... Needless to say, I wasn't able to stop just there. So with my stockbook fit to burst, I thought I would share some of my favourites. And considering I am a pre 1940s stamp guy, this one is definetly a bit of an odd one out in my collection. But I have to say... It's one of the pretty ones.

A tale of two barn stamps.I have often wondered over the past several months why the USPS issued two different sets of barn stamps, the postcard rate Barn stamps issued in 2021 and the bulk mail rate Flag on Barn stamps issued in 2022. The stamps are of similar size, the colors are similar and, while the Flag on Barn issue has an obvious flag in the design, the stamps are similar enough that one can see the issues being used incorrectly or in place of one another. While this is not the case here, I think, it did occur to me that a company that does bulk mailing extensively like the local window replacement company could inadvertently use the postcard rate stamps for bulk mail instead of the bulk mail rate stamps if they did both types of mailings. Needless to say, our eye doctor, put a postcard rate stamp on a full size envelope and managed to send me a bill through the mail even though it does not pay the .60c rate. Which leaves me wondering if the postal clerks don't realize that this stamp is incorrectly used and thought it was a bulk mail flag on barn stamp?

As long as we're on the subject of barns, here is the 3rd of 4 Flag on Barn, presorted standard (10c), coil stamps issued on April 14, 2022 in Halifax, Pennsylvania (Scott5684). Scott describes this design as "red barn near well."

I finally received a copy of the 4th Flag on Barn, presorted standard (10c), self-adhesive, coil stamp. The set was issued on April 14, 2022 in Halifax, Pennsylvania (Scott 5687). The design is described as "barn near windmill."

With the recent discussion on the thread about breaking up souvenir sheets and blocks I came across this Bicentennial sheet. I expect many have been broken up for postage or as single mint examples. I did not have the heart to do so even though the sheets have not appreciated much above face value. It is an aggravating size being about 1/2 inches too wide for the many different sheet protectors I have.

hdm1950, I have 9 of those 13 cent bicentennial state flag sheets and will likely never get around to using them all for postage. Rates are now at the point where there isn't enough room on the envelope to be able to use all of the low-value stamps.

I will never use all the .05 era stamps I have but do use quite a few as add ons to higher value stamps to bring the letter up to the current rate. I only have a handful of Canada full sheets and only this one US full sheet. I only kept it because it gave me a mint copy of each flag. My mounted collection are all used copies. I would assume there are collectors around that try to get used copies with cancels from the state of the flag.

My mail of late seems to consist mostly of barn stamps, both the postcard rate barns and the pre-sort barns. Here are some of the recent items I have found in my mailbox. Unfortunately no pnc singles yet but I do like the Mailer's Permit postmark. This will remain as a whole cover to add to my collection of these items.

Also, I removed this small group of stamps from paper with Pure Citrus this afternoon. Items new to me will go in my collection but the rest will go onto Colnect for sale. My future daughter-in-law has started saving stamps for me from their incoming mail...yet one more reason why I think she is perfect for our son.

Darrin, darkormex - how do the stamps compare on paper and off appearance wise? I’ve read that the paper color and surface of the stamp looks different when pure citrus is used. The ones on paper in the pics above look much brighter and whiter, but they are not side by side comparisons. Do they look the same or different to you? Unfortunately, I can’t experiment with those chemicals myself because of allergies - they trigger an asthmatic reaction. I would have to wear my respirator to use the chemicals and I’d also have to work outside - very awkward! Thanks for your opinion!

philatelia , I have never really looked at the paper color or surface to see if there is a difference but I will when I get home tonight. I am reluctant to say that based on my 2 different scans above that there is a brightness difference due to pure citrus. The clear sleeve that I inserted these stamps into on the hagner page has yellowed with age and that is probably the difference, not because of anything having to do with using the spray. The only thing that I find problematic sometimes is that the spray-on cancels blur and, if you are not careful, can cause a gray tint to spread over the stamp. This can be mitigated by not using an excess of fluid and placing the stamp face down on paper towel to absorb any excess fluid after removing the paper and adhesive and letting it air dry. You can see this a little bit on the wood lily stamp as I was not as careful as I should have been.
