Vietnam imperforates question I have noticed numerous imperforate versions of Vietnam stamps on eBay. Are these considered legitimate issues by the cataloging community and stamp editors? I don't have a recent catalog. Example:
Wiki tells me this: "Many stamp sets of North Vietnam and post-reunification Vietnam are available imperforate, as opposed to the regular perforated versions. This goes for stamps printed domestically[14] and abroad.[15] At present, Vietnamese stamps are officially offered in both regular, imperforate and specimen versions.[16] The imperforate and specimen versions serve no postal purpose and are thus entirely aimed at the collector community." Does that accurately sum up the situation? Jeff

Hello Jeff, i can't answer to your question properly, but as for "The imperforate and specimen versions serve no postal purpose and are thus entirely aimed at the collector community", well isn't it true also for regular issues? I believe these, like regular perforated stamps, can find place in a collection just depending by the collector wish more the on the base of on a official patent...

The 2009 Scott catalog (the most recent worldwide set I have) indicates the set of 8 perf. 12 stamps (Scott 856-863; 25Jan1977) were also issued imperforate. The catalog makes no mention of their postal validity. Perhaps lvh7070 can offer some insight.

Michel (2003 !) lists the imperforated issues till the first half of 1981,most of them in mint.n.h. and used condition.
From then on they give the following note:
"From the year 1981 onwards there are imperforated stamps of most thematic issues. These cost mint or used 1,5 to 2 times the price of the mint perforated issues."

But i would say the "used" condition refers to CTO or to stamps postmarked directly during the printing phase...
Finding a genuine postage usage of those stamps, that would be a catch...

Greetings from Vietnam My pleasure to join the philatelic passionate forum here. I hope I can learn and exchange ideas with other members going forward. I have been collecting North Vietnam stamps issued from 1946, including some of the hard-to-find stamps in Vietnam. For topical themes, I have been collecting art-paintings from artists of all historical art periods to date; traditional & regional ladies costumes; military uniforms; engraved stamps of landscape, people and buildings; historical literatures; classical music composers; traditional national festivals from all countries, cats and big cats. Kind regards, Leo Hung Sharing one of the hard to find stamp of the North Vietnam which I am able to acquire recently. VN Code 112 This stamp was issued by September 1962. But right after that this was recalled after 2 weeks. Reason of the recall was rumored as the design of the athlete foot stepped over the flags.

This was issued on Jan-28, 1977 (Source: www.vietstamp.net/vn/tem-viet-nam/tem-cong-hoa-xa-hoi-chu-nghia-viet-nam/1977/), printed by former CCCP This set was in both perf. and imperforate. The imperforate is meant for stamp collectors only, not for postage usage Sharing my set of imperforate here:

VN Code 19,Mac-Thi-Buoi commemoratives:
Are the stamps you´ve showed cancelled to order ? I ask, because Michel lists two prices, one for postally used and, considerably cheaper, one for c.t.o. I guess the shown ones are c.t.o.,as the cancellation looks uniform, like from a central cancellation of blocs of four.
About the imperforated sets:
was the sale within Vietnam restricted ? Were they sold at all in Vietnam,or maybe to priviledged customers only, or were they produced for export only ? They were valid for postage, because they exist on letters and... are listed by Michel.

@ Saletin
VN Code 19: Those Mac-Thi-Buoi stamp sets I posted earlier are all CTO.
Imperforated sets: These are available for any customers with no restriction. You may want to try order directly from Vietnam Stamp Company (Postage Stamp Issuer) for the recent years. As far as I am aware of, they are not valid for postage

While working on my Indochina (french) classics, I came upon this overprint of Indochina 254 (1945) - Gov General Paul Doumer. This overprint was done as a Viet Minh Issue (North Vietnam) and since it is the only one I presently have - decided to do a page and insert it with my Indochina collection - now I am looking for more.......my friend hrdoktorx had previously showed some overprints René p.s. there are 7 new stamps found today....

I picked up this picture post card for the image of a Marchande de pamplemousses - grapefruit merchant. The large and varying sizes of the fruit make me think these are pomelos, not grapefruit.
The card is franked with one value from the 1951 landscapes and one value from the 1952 3-stamp set featuring Nam Phuong, the "First Lady of Vietnam." She is a very interesting search subject.
Postmark and date are not readble

JeffS.....nice card, definitely Pomelos. They are very popular here when in season and many prefer the less acidic flavour. I was interested so looked around and I understand that a Pomelo is often spoken in France and other French-speaking nations as a 'Pamplemousse'. No doubt the card publishers had that French influence during those Indochina days. Thanks for showing.

Londonbus1 You are absolutely correct regarding the use of "pamplemousse" by French localities for pomelo instead of grapefruit. I even have a page in my collection which addresses this. This will be a good visual addition to that section. thanks for the reminder.
