The basic stamp is that of the 1910 issue "Independence Centenary" So the overprint should be Michel no.368 (Villa & Zapata overprints) My 1988 Michel values the stamp DM -.90 for mint, hinged and used as well.

I came across this last night as I was sorting this issue. Appears to be a double printing.

You can't imagine how much I don't know about Mexico - but curious as to why I can't see this one in the 1890s period in the on-line 'Stampworld' catalogue. First off the only reason I was going to post was my peculiar attraction for 'badly centred' stamps, so had a look at the catalogue to hopefully get a little more info for the post, but no go. I'm assuming it's a legitimate postage revenue stamp - part of the engraving shows the date one side as 1890 and on the opposite as 1891. It appears to carry an overstamp in black which reads MEXICO DF. An attractive stamp which may be a line engraved piece - I love that greenish-blue which reminded me of U.K. bank note colour from the mid C20, though the perfs. have really chewed into this one. Thanks if anyone has any more info.

It is indeed a Mexican revenue. Search eBay under Mexico 1891 revenue.

you're correct Jeff - have now looked and this is indeed a Revenue piece and not a postal item as such - I must be more careful and look to see that such words as correos appear on the stamp. It hadn't occurred to me to use ebay from the point of view of a a catalogue where comparisons can be made for checking etc., though of course I do spend time browsing as to what's available to buy. The 'filigree' intertwined engraved lines are v. attractive. Again, much appreciated - thanks.

I don't do flyspeck collecting. I was wondering if you show the "balls" on these stamps. I have no clue what you are seeing. I have been counting every curl on the stamps, but I am not coming up with anything I can say is a "ball". Would appreciate the education. Nick

Nick nick2302 The Balls are the ends of the curved design devices, at the bottom of the stamp design.

Thanks rod222. I appreciate the education. Flyspeck has always been too detailed for me and I have been to busy to get down and dirty and learn about some guys ear or beard so some ticky detail. Really appreciate your reply.
