Logged into ukrposhta.com to order the remaining Ukrainian stamps, before I head of for New Years festivities.
Ukraine issued a LOT of stamps in the second half of 2013, especially expensive souvenir sheets.
So I checked off everything I did not have and the total came to a whopping ₴197.03! I went into a slight panic there till I did a currency conversion. With the conversion, that total came to US$23.91, a much more affordable amount!
Now I just have to wait for the confirmation email that they have all the stamps, and I will be allowed to pay. Hopefully, I get the email soon. With Christmas coming on January 7th over there, I'm thinking things will be slowed down by the holiday.

What I collect: If I have a catalogue for it, I collect it. And I have many catalogues ....

I always say you need to learn something new every day or you're ready to die. What did I learn today? ₴, the more-or-less new currency symbol for the Ukrainian hryvnia. Once again I am baffled by Cyrillic italics - the Cyrillic letter Г is written in lower-case italics as a mirrored letter S. Add two horizontal strokes and you have a currency symbol. Looks like I'm not ready to die today, I learned something new! ha ha

The interesting thing about the Cyrillic alphabet is that EVERYTHING is spelled the way it sounds. Which is obviously useful if you know how read Cyrillic.
So, I got the email from ukrposhta that they're procession my order, but am still waiting on the email to pay for my order. I assume they're behind with the New Year on the 1st and Christmas on the 7th.

So, the fine folks at ukrposhta just emailed me and told me that my order was ready to be paid for. My order for ₴254 is being converted by their system to US$197! It should be $30. They didn't seem to have a problem with this when I emailed them. I sent another email and am still waiting for a reply.

This is my fifth order from them, and the first one I had a problem with.

So, I recreated the order and it came to around $24. They cancelled the old order and I went to pay for the new order. It took my credit card and I was sent an email by the bank that the transaction went through, but their website threw an order and it now says it's still waiting for payment. I emailed them again to straighten this mess out.

So, I just realized the entire city of Kyiv is mired in protests from people wanting the current president to resign from office, and for good reason. So, I am going to expect my order to take a bit...

Hopefully it goes smoothly from here on, both for your order and for the citizens of Ukraine. (I've seen those protests on the news.)

I think some of my Mom's family is in those protests. I know they went Kyiv to protest during the Orange Revolution.
