Unusual to see an Australian postmark, cancelling a British Stamp. Here is a Scot "Brunswick Star" (320 / A) (Edinburgh) ( TAIN ) cancelling an early 9 kreuzer German Stamp. Owner : Gerhard.

I don't think this is a British Brunswick star of Edinburgh ... The number is wrong for a start ..... All the Edinburgh ones followed the above basic style, but there are variations in the rays etc The number over letter arrangement suggests another locations ... and although I am aware that the design was used in other countries, I have no further details at this time Allan

I stand corrected. Postmark 320/ A = Scotland Post Office = Tain Thanks for the heads up. (I think these postmarks were from Pearson Hill's "Parallel Motion" cancellers, Allan) Due recognition to Mr. Tim Burgess, in 2007, who located the Pmk (and brickbats to my faltering memory)

rod222 The details for that postmark on the German stamp now added ..... I also stand corrected .... Tonight's item is the addition of a picture, and thus some related details, for an item I had listed but have today added a scan ... [Moderator edit - image links are broken and irretrievable]No 70 Oxford Street B O W Money Order Office, Savings Bank & Telegraph Office. Code used OCG. 5 July 1909. Ex 'No.10' Replaced by 'Rathbone Place' 16 June 1924 The previous office was No. 10 ... Details as follows ... Money Order Office, Savings Bank & Telegraph Office. Code used OCG. 1 May 1885 Ex 'No.19' Replaced by 'No.70' 5 July 1909 Although changed to No. 70 on the 5 July 1909, as can be seen, the hand stamp remained in used for a number of years I have no scan for the office at No. 19, but the details are ... Money Order Office, Savings Bank & Telegraph Office. Code used OCG. 1 September 1881 Ex 'No.431' Replaced by 'No.10' 1 May 1885 Also, no scan for No. 431, but details are ... BO, Money Order Office, Savings Bank & Telegraph Office. Code used OCG. 1 March 1873 Renumbered 'No.19', 1 September 1881 ----------------------------------------------- To return to No. 70 we see that it was replaced by Rathbone Place on the 16 June 1924 Again, I have no scan at this time, and will refrain from more text, however, this is the intention of the database to be able to trace these items, thus my request for anything that can be added I trust this will prompt some to look at their postmarks, check the database and aid in the additions and updates ... Running a little late, but Wednesdays items is ... Devonport [Moderator edit - image links are broken and irretrievable]Devonport was allocated the numeral 250 ... According to Brumell in his book on Post Office numbers, a double stamp, (duplex as above), was used in 1856 As can be seen from the scan, we can now extend this date back to the 12 March 1855 A nice example of the error of number The correct location, Plymouth, with the same type of mark for comparison Allan

tallanent INCHTURE You have a faded scan. This may be helpful. PENCAITLAND You are searching for an image of this one (misplaced "7" in the date slug) (curious as to the coloured paper on these stationery cut outs, not common in the 1800's? )

London 1897 to Brussels Uprated stationery Envelope Stamped to Order to Belgium tallanent Can you offer an opinion please? (Post above) Guess: Postmark : London postmark for mail going elsewhere. 105 in Diamond = Bracknell (40km west of London) These postmarks with the number in diamond were all used at the London Inland Office They can not be assigned to a specific office, (Bracknell), as they are a totally different series .... The clerk probably got a cancellation device at the start of their shift. They would then stamp it in the office DSI book, (Date Stamp Impression book), and add the date and their name In the event of a complaint at a later date, it would be possible to then trace who was using each device. The inland office numbers go fairly high, but I am not sure how far without checking Hope this helps ... Allan PS .. Now listed in the database

Mourning Cover / Ladies Cover Frustrating, I cannot translate the second line. Drat! This may be your man Donald Currie Esquire, Perthshire en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Donald_CurrieThe dates marry. The District BALLINLUIG is 18 miles from FORTINGALL The Birthplace of Pontius Pilate. This man was a shipping magnate, he should have lots of proving covers around the internet, one would surmise. tallanent"E D" on the Liverpool CDS ? Evening Delivery ?

Numerical Postmarks with city names underneath zipper Zip, you have the beginnings of a valuable collection. If you would consider a reference for a checklist, to enhance your enjoyment of the discipline, I have an Excel sheet of English, Scot,Welsh, and Irish postmarks and numbers (I do not have excel, but mine opens in the free "Libre office") Let me know if you are interested, and I may be able to email it to you. Sadly, I am unable to show recognition to the author, whom remains unknown. Possibly Mr. Stuart Tanner, Northern Ireland.
