Postal stationery with WSt. such as (a), (b), (f), (g), also kopfbild the Town Clerk Haltenhoffstraße with the described ausfuhrlich in the joint work of H.Muller and W. Wescher in the catalog for '86-HABRIA still obtainable!
Immediately after closure of the company then founded the former head of Mercury, George Walter, the "TRANSPORT INSTITUTE MERKUR" for carriage of printed matter without Address. Without issuing this follow brands company worked until at least 1915.

It's rough translation but maybe you can make sense out of it? I can speak Dutch but not German so well and the above was from an online language translators' results. Sorry I couldn't do any better.

Here's my go with the translation: "Postal stationery with value/design such as (a), (b), (f), (g), also with the portrait of the mayor Haltenhoff, are originally described in publication of of H.Muller and W. Wescher in 86-HABRIA catalog - still available! Immediately after the closure of company, established Georg Walter, the former manager of Mercur, VERKEHRSANSTALT MERKUR, for transport of printed matter without address. The company operated at least to 1915 without stamp issues." As German is not my native, minor (semantic) errors with the translation are possible. But 20+ years with Michel catalogs teaches a good deal of German vocabulary

The Michel school of German, has served you well scb Thank you very much indeed, scb and Jeff, the only phrase I am a little shaky on is "transport of printed matter without address" that is a little curious, I am not sure I understand that. However, I have an album page.

I think it refers to newspapers delivery etc. unaddressable mail. But that's speculation, not a fact. Edit: this entry from German Wikipedia might interest you: de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mercur_Privat-Stadtbrief-Expedition (naturally it's in German, but Google Translate does a somewhat decent job with it).

Fabulous stuff scb ! It didn't occur to me to search Wiki.
The postcards are fabulous, I note the 1896 card was giving Germany "The finger" Alas, they were still 300 years late, the first being seen around 1592
We stamp collectors refer to them as "auxilliary markings" or "pointing fingers" but they appear to have once be called "fists"

perhaps just printer's waste but this pair caught my eye (and a piece or two from my wallet!) Somewhere I have a block of four as well, so maybe I will seek out a trade if interested after I qualify! Jim in Georgia (hi Jerry B. see, I AM posting more these days, I am way up to FOUR POSTS now!!!)

AND IN THIS CORNER..... Actually this "cover" was an educational creation called "Kinderpost", to teach good young German children the proper manners to post mail. You may note the pretend-named bank in Germany, the similarity to the popular Germania definitive series of the early twentieth century (note the initials instead of the country name); even the R-etiquette is "fake" too! Amazing what you can find in a cover box for not a lot of money! --Jim in Georgia

The members here have a large collection of "Toy Stamps" This one some years back was never solved, but our member "Postmaster GS" suggested it looked similar to a Kinderpost design. rod222, jimwentzell, Nothing much to add from me. Rod covered it. And I'd agree -- probably printer's waste.

Here's a mass of recent German private post stamps from 16 different service providers. I bought a mixture on eBay of these but it was rather uninspiring - the vast majority were of a single type, unfortunately, the Südmail zeppelin stamp. Oh well. I don't have a catalogue for these yet anyway. If the mix had been exciting then probably I would! There are actually two separate volumes to Michel's catalogue for German private post stamps. One handles old issues prior to 1900, the other covers new issues released since 1994. Ryan Great Post! Never seen these before. I have the Michel Catalogue for the older Private Posts. They must be very busy at Michel.

Is it the Michel Deutschland-Spezial Katalog, or is it in a different catalog of theirs? Congratulations on acquiring them and thanks for showing them!
