Some more of these modern Dutch stamps. At least I think these are postage stamps. Can't find them in my 2003 Scott's. I assume the odd perfs indicate these were machine dispensed. Dated 1998. I do have to say though, these babies are UGLY! I have to say, for the land that gave us Dutch masters (not the cigars), Van Gogh and Amsterdam, you'd think they could design some nicer stamps. [/a]I guess it's supposed to represent a blue ceramic tile.

Those Delft stamps are also a good example of problems with self-adhesive stamps. There were a few of the Dutch self-adhesives from that era that just dry out and fall right off the paper, and the Delft stamps were among them. Better than staining the stamp like the first US self-adhesives, but one of the issues of the day in the Netherlands was a "customized" stamp, one where you can choose a central vignette which you then stick on to the main stamp. Fine, Canada did the same thing, but the Dutch ones fall apart! I've resurrected mine by re-attaching the vignette with a glue stick. The lipstick-style glue sticks are water-based and supposed to be acid-free - we'll see what my stamps look like in 10 years, I guess.

Unknown. Assistance welcomed. ... Why, and this is just a guess mind you, I would say that it was from the province of Noord-Holland. Oh, you already knew that... well, this may be a clue. From 'The Stamp Collector's Magazine' vol. IV (1868) p80, which I just plucked from my extensive philatelic library Google search results: F.H., Bridgewater. - The Dutch stamp you describe marked ZUID-HOLLAND, similar to the NOORD-HOLLAND noted in Bellars & Davie's catalogue, is neither new nor an envelope, but a newspaper stamp impressed by hand...What do you think? It looks to me that it may be a "stamp impressed by hand", but I don't really know what to look for.

Everyone plays a part!
wiki In 1840, the province of Holland was split into the two provinces of North Holland and South Holland. In 1855, the Haarlemmermeer was drained and turned into land.
We must pay eternal thanks to the North Hollanders, their iconic black and white cows (Friesians) supply their delicious milk every morning, for our coffee and weetabix.

rod222 is inactive? a pity- It was his post that identified the registration tag I found in amongst the sort pile-

That's a great, clear cancel!
The stamp was issued on August 15, 1972, so I'd say that the cancel reads the 19th day of September, 1972. The 20 (2.0?) would be the hour...
That's how I would decipher it.

I always forget about the hour.... but yes, that makes sense
as to the regitsration tag- it is apparently Austrian not from the Netherlands, despite the similarities... perhaps it is common among shipments via water(?)
Lustenau is a town in the Austrian state of Vorarlberg in the district of Dornbirn. It lies on the river Rhine, which forms the border with Switzerland. Lustenau is Vorarlberg's fourth largest town.

I realise I left the posting above a bit open without any kind of explanation; my excuses ;-) As it is, these were a recent purchase and for the one euro that they cost me, the price was right! I am not sure if there is a Nederland's booklet collection in the works or these will simply create an interesting page or two in the album. Time will tell. In the meantime, does any one have any recommendations for good reference material on these booklet stamps? I have looked and sourced this site, NEDERLAND 1964-~ but if others have pointers or suggestion for other reference material or handbooks, please do share... Thanks and happy collecting!

Indeed marking , they are booklet stamps from complete booklets but some of the full booklets may not be as large as one might think as seen here or as in rod222's original post that starts the thread,
As you rightly point out though, some of the issues and their booklets can be quite large as can be seen from examples available from the URL shared previously.
For now, I am just exploring the possibilities and will follow with a PM for those additional resources...
Happy collecting!

These three stamps were made available to visitors of the International Philatelic Exhibition 1924 in Den Haag and were not obtainable at regular post offices. The release of this issue would herald in a new series featuring then Queen Wilhelmina and designed by Prof. J. Veth.
Happy collecting!

Nice post, Vince ( stanley64 )! I like these sorts of special issues that countries produced back in the 1920s-1930s for philatelic exhibitions. I am glad to get to see these from The Netherlands. I had noted their existence some time ago, and perhaps foolishly, I have bought some large mixed lots containing significant numbers of the subsequent regular issue of these stamps hoping that I might luck out and find one of these original show issues. I guess it's the treasure hunter in me! Of course, I have had no such luck, so if I really want these, I should probably stop looking for the proverbial "needle in a haystack" and just find myself a nice set at a fair price. I note from the catalogue values that while these are not cheap, they are also not unaffordable, either. Anyway, thanks for the post and reminding me about these show issues. I like them very much.

I thing you are right Chris Beryllium Guy about the needle in the haystack with only 60.000 sets initially available.
It is my understanding that for the price of admission to the Exhibition Hall you had the right to purchase two sets of the stamps. As such, I suspect that collectors had one set cancelled, the other kept mint and from there they got placed into albums and rarely saw true postal service except as a "philatelic" item. As for the cost, they could be considered a bit of a splurge and for me, they are the beginnings of my "Veth" collection, roltanding (syncopated perfs) and all...
Happy collecting!
