Perched atop a rock pinnacle at the famous Wadi Dhahr Valley, some 15 km away from the capital city of Sana, Yemen, is Dar al-Hajar, better known as the Imam's Rock Palace. Back in the day, Yemen didn't have a king or a president. Instead, leadership of the country rested on the shoulders of an Imam (Islamic spiritual leader). The Rock Palace was built in the 1930s by Imam Yahya as his summer residence. The palace was restored for visitors, and turned into a museum of sort.It is depicted on Yemen Scott catalog numbers 78 and C10.

I must say, the stamp design doesn't do justice to how interesting the building appears in the photo. That's quite the arrangement there.

Yemen Arab Republic (YAR) also known as North Yemen , was a country from 1962 to 1990 in the northwestern part of what is now Yemen. It united with the People's Democratic Republic of Yemen (commonly known as South Yemen), on May 22, 1990, to form the current Republic of Yemen. 1963 - Airmail - Issue of 1939 overprinted Scott # C29D

Although inscribed "Tax a Percevoir" , these stamps were only used for ordinary postage purposes as there was no postage due system in Yemen up to that date . 1942 - Scott # J4-J8 (Comp.set J1-J8(8) )

These are not listed in Gibbons either stating they were not issued by the Postal Service and giving other examples of such items.
Nice though.

They were overprinted on stamps of 1931 and 1940. Although not regularly sold at post offices in Yemen, several values form these sets do appear on covers that passed through normal postal channels." Why were they distributed abroad ? Or are they bogus and not postally valid ?

The Yemen Arabic Republic isn't an area I collect - the only reason for posting is that in view of the size then perhaps this might qualify as one of the largest stamps - that's assuming it 's a genuine postage item. Came from a lot of used stamps from the charity shop this morning. Size is ............ 93mm x 48mm.
