An attractive long series entitled Bewohner der Erde, Inhabitants of the Earth, probably late 19th or early 20th century. They are based on illustrations from an early 19th century atlas see here. I purchased these some years ago and had to bid on 7 different lots to re-unite them. The wide margin at the bottom was to allow for advertising but none of these has any. It is likely that there were many more in the series but this is a decent collection.
I have arranged them in German alphabetical order. Translating them is easier with some than others and even Google Translate couldn't translate all of them. I have censored the last 2 since they were offensive terms even in those days. I have left Eskimo since it is more complex, see this Alaskan-Natives website link for the perfect explanation of the Inuit/Eskimo argument.
I may add translations later or you may wish to work them out for yourselves.

Hi cara , that's a great little collection. Broadly speaking, they are fund-raising stamps for organisations promoting Germanness abroad, largely Austria but other countries too. The stamps at the very end, for example, promote German songs. There are various stamps from the German School Association which was originally formed from a broad alliance in 1880, but by the end of World War I was much more nationalistic. With the rise of the National Socialists in the 1930s, all such organisations came under their control, hence the stamp with the swastika and the wording 'Aryan blood of the highest quality'. However, I think that most of your stamps are from much earlier but they're difficult to date precisely.

Thank you daniel. Do you know a link where I can read more about these cinderellas? Or do you know whether there is a catalogue? JeffS unfortunately no oranges. Probably oranges were not very common in Germany at that time.

I could be a buyer if I can aford them.

Hi cara, as far as Cinderella catalogues are concerned, they are far more difficult to find than for postage stamps and those that do exist, often don't get reprinted. As cursus suggests, there must have been some published in Austria or Germany but I'm not particularly aware of any. The best place for information on these is The Cinderella Philatelist (which is a quarterly publication from The Cinderella Stamp Club) which regularly features articles as 'The Wehrschatzmarken Gazette: Occasional Notes on the Fund-raising Stamps of the German Societies' . There are some of these stamps on ebay selling for £1.50 each. That is, probably, a fair rough guide as to their value.

There is much information on these German Cinderellas with 3 lines of text. Here's the short version. In 1883 in Schweinfurt, Friedrich Fischer invented a machine to mass produce ball bearings for the first time and these stamps, issued in 1913, mark the 30th anniversary. Initially used in bicycles, with the advent of the motor car they were used in roller bearings in car parts. The stamps would appear to show a motor car being tested in rough conditions across America. 9 from a set of 12 marked series 2.
In 2000 F.A.G. Kugelfischer, as they were then called, produced the large roller bearings for The London Eye.

A promotional stamp for Fritz Lang's film M released in 1931. Produced by Nero-Film A.G. and distributed by Vereinigte Star-Film GmbH. Written by Lang and his wife Thea von Harbou. Starring Peter Lorre as a child murderer hunted by the police and underworld criminals. A harrowing film but considered to be one of the greatest of all time.
Purchased as part of a job lot, probably rare.

The German Youth Hostel Association, Deutsches Jugendherbergswerk or simply DJH, was founded in 1919. In 1933 it was merged into the Hitler Youth, these 3 donation (spende) stamps are from that era, you can just make out a swastika incorporated into the DJH emblem.
The first stamp depicts the Berchtesgarden Youth Hostel and is from 1939. The other 2 are from the 1940s. The inscription reads Gesunde Jugend Wehrhaft Volk which roughly translates as Healthy Youth Defense Folk. They depict youth activities.

Four stamps, from a series of 40, depicting The Post around the world. 19th century. The blank cartouche would have been for advertising.

I have not collected any Cinderellas yet, and I am not at all familiar with this area. Also from German forums I know little discussion about Cinderellas. But in TSF Cinderellas are shown very often and obviously this is of greater interest internationally than in Germany. I'm very late with this reply - it's been a long time since I have looked at this thread. You might want to look at veikkos.com - this is a large cinderella dealer in Germany with a German-language website (available in English too). Have a look at his Wiki-style Zentralkatalog for a listing of cinderellas according to topic or area (including Nuremberg!). Perhaps you can find some information on some of your labels. Ryan

The "world of the cinderellas" is a very interesting new topic for me. In the Richard C. Witt website, he says: "Germany mourning for her lost territory in Europe", referring to the nine stamp series that attach. After WWI, the Treaty of Versailles established that Germany had to give up its colonies, but, some people didn't agree, others did business with the transport of inmigrant citizens, and others continued doing propaganda. A curious fact about this series is that they all have a watermark, which makes me wonder if there are other cinderella series with this feature. In a previous post of Londonbus1 (May 30, 2020 16:31:51 GMT -4) showed the sister series (nine stamps too), and next, cursus uploaded the Lothringen territory with a different perforation (roulette, or maybe only the bad paper quality). Some of these stamps are hinged, I think it should be obvious knowing that they are almost 100 years!

Those are spectacular!! I am a big fan of stamps in the art nouveau style, and these definitely have those elements. So I agree with you that the date is probably early 20th century. And it's just a feeling, but the typography calls out to me to be later in the art nouveau era (on its way to Art Deco), so my not-so-well-informed guess that it's in the 1910-1920 range, but I could be entirely wrong. daniel, if you ever happen to see another set of these stamps listed somewhere, please feel free to send me a message and let me know!

Another nice lot German stamps, with some duplication, celebrating victories over Napoleon. I like the way these stamps are coloured. The top two stamps depict the Entry of the three allied monarchs into Leipzig, 19th October 1813. They show some variance in the colour of the coat of Tsar Alexander I of Russia.
