Here are a pair of what I think are colour proofs for the 1966 issue that commemorated the 6th anniversary of Cameroon's admission to the United Nations, printed on gummed paper. The issued stamps were multi-coloured engravings.  Ryan |

Here are a pair of what I think are colour proofs for the 1966 issue that commemorated the 6th anniversary of Cameroon's admission to the United Nations, printed on gummed paper. "Prior to World War I, Cameroons was a German Protectorate.It was occupied during the War by Great Britain and France and in 1922 was mandated to these countries by the League of Nations. Stamps of Nigeria were used in the British part until 1960.The northern section of the British Cameroons became part of the Independent state of Nigeria in 1960, and the southern section became a United Kingdom Trust Territory. After a referendum,this U.K.T.T. joined the independent State of Cameroun to form the Federal Republic of Cameroun, Oct 1 1961. Stamps of the German Protectorate,the French Mandate,the independent state and the Cameroun Federal Republic are listed under Cameroun." Scott United Kingdom Trust Territory U.K.T.T. Some "Cameroun Francais 27-8-40" issues (YT#202, 211 & 213). The date on the overprint refers to, I believe, when the local colonial governor officially decided to not follow orders from Petain and Vichy France and instead follow the General de Gaulle. He may have been aided in his decision by the British troops at his doorstep coming from Nigeria.  |

Yesterday when I scanned the joint floral issue stamp, I also scanned the whole page for Cameroon where that stamp was. Since that page is nice and full, let's show it! The page contains the issues from 1960-1961, from independence to the establishment of the federal republic (after that pesky territory sharing arrangement with Nigeria was worked out).  |

Cameroun YV 292,part of a 19 stammp series issued in 1946 showinng various aspects of daily life.An example of different shades, listed in Dallay as blue and blue green.Gibbons catalogue also mentions there are numerous shades.  |
