Israel Vulpes Cana (Blandford's Fox) A free gift from another very generous "The Stamp Forum" member , Londonbus1, in an auction lot I purchased. wiki The Biblical foxes in the vineyard mentioned in the Song of Songs 2:15, described as "little foxes who roun the vineyards" are most probably the frugivorous Blanford's foxes.

Who would have thought that Vupes zerda is on so many stamps! I've been looking around and can't find any other stamps with foxes on them. So I'll post here the same one I posted under Algeria. Algeria 1957 Semi-postal issue. Fennec Fox (Vulpes zerda)

..and up until you posted, I had always thought the big ears were used as an adaption for hunting prey at night. Heat dissipation, then they share that adaption with the Elephant. It is interesting to consider why the Australian Kangaroo did not take that route, they lick their forearms.

Now that you mention it, a marine animal (mammal?) is a bit strange for the issue let alone a Sand Dunes Country...... i

Thankyou, I stand corrected, scimitars it is.
"what philately teaches" I guess not really out of place....wiki
From Middle-East to African continent Populations of dugongs exist in the water of 37 countries and territories. In the late 1960s, herds of up to 500 dugongs were observed off the coast of East Africa and nearby islands. Current populations in this area are extremely small, numbering 50 and below, and it is thought likely they will become extinct. The eastern side of the Red Sea is the home of large populations numbering in the hundreds, and similar populations are thought to exist on the western side. In the 1980s, it was estimated there could be as many as 4,000 dugongs in the Red Sea. The Persian Gulf has the second-largest dugong population in the world, inhabiting most of the southern coast, and the current population is believed to be around 7,500.

scimitars it is. "what philately teaches" I was asking...... I couldn't find the exact terminology for the Arabian blade....... reminds me of one of my all time favorite cartoons..... Bugs Bunny and Daffy Duck pop-up in a cave full of treasure. Outside, at the entrance was a large, not too bright Arabian Knight wielding a blade the size of a flattened motorcycle.......
My new favorite word, dugong

Vulpes vulpes Silver Fox Wiki The silver fox (Vulpes vulpes) is a melanistic form of red fox. Silver foxes display a great deal of pelt variation: some are completely black except for a white coloration on the tip of the tail, some are bluish-grey, and some may have a cinereous colour on the sides. Historically, silver foxes were among the most valued furbearers, and their skins were frequently worn by nobles in Russia, Western Europe, and China. Wild silver foxes do not naturally reproduce exclusively with members of the same coat morph, and can be littermates with the common red variety,[2] though captive populations bred for their fur are almost exclusively mated with members of the same colour. Our town has an annual Fox hunt, they are considered an introduced pest, and do very serious harm to sheep and indigenous fauna.
The fox shoots are between Feb - March annually. 2013 results Culled 80 foxes, 10 feral cats and 62 rabbits.
The winning team hauled in a very impressive 37 foxes.
The shoot was registered as part of a state-wide shooting and baiting program.
Prizes extend to donating a generous $5 per fox to the Royal Flying Doctors Service.
We often see Vulpes vulpes when cycling on the weekend.
The spread of red foxes across southern Australia coincided with declines in the distribution of several medium-sized ground-dwelling mammals, including brush-tailed bettongs, burrowing bettongs, rufous bettongs, Tasmanian bettongs, bilbys, numbats, bridled nailtail wallabys and quokkas. Most of these species are now limited to islands where red foxes are absent or rare. Semi-arboreal species affected by fox predation include brush-tailed and western ringtail possums. Australian foxes are usually controlled with baits or the animals shot with the aid of spotlighting. The eyeshine signature (from the tapetum lucidum in the eye) of foxes, and body shape and silhouette are used to identify them. Success has also been found with the reintroduction of the dingo, which has been shown to control the number of wild foxes, and a consequential increase in native fauna.

Here's a pair of Canadian swift foxes (vulpes velox), one with teeth and one without. And a picture of a red fox kit taken by a friend in Ontario, this cute little guy was brave enough to not run away immediately when spotted on a nature walk. Ryan
