So, the 2014 Hibernian Catalog is out, and I have been told by a number of people that it is an excellent resource and contains varieties that other catalogs miss.
My issues
1. The catalog comes out once every 4 years. I don't believe there are any interim updates issued in between 2. I have never seen anyone sell stamps by Hibernian numbers. Everybody always uses Stanley Gibbons numbers, at least on eBay or Bidstart.
So, do any Irish collectors use the Hibernian catalog? Do you back it up with another catalog?

I use the Hibernian for flyspecking. But I don't need to buy updates very often because most of the varieties are found on older issues. I also have a few other Irish catalogs, but I always seem to grab the Hibernian first. I use Scott numbers for filing and labeling just because I'm in the states and it's the default over here (darn it!).

So, what do you do for new issues? Is there a Hibernian newsletter that they talk about new issues? Is there a web site that details new Irish releases besides anpost.ie?

And what album are you using for your Irish stamps?

Actually, I don't use an album for my Irish collection. I have about 20 white binders with Hagnar and Vario Sheets. It is still a work in progress, but I'm aiming for mint and used and covers for every issue, with some examples of different cancels, mixed frankings, multiples, etc. I have two binders full of nothing but birds and I've only scratched the surface studying that issue. I love specializing! So much fun digging in and learning one area really well.
I don't worry about new issues very much. I'm mostly interested in older issues right now. I suppose I should catch up with An-Post and order some of the newer stuff before it goes off sale, though. Thanks for the reminder! I'm in the accumulating stage of collecting, trying to get enough material to be able to examine multiple copies for variation and that's tough to do with recent issues. (If anyone has any bags of old common Ireland to get rid of, I'd be very interested!)
