Welcome to the family, TIS. Look forward to your contribution to Colombia. Possibly the first consideration for you will be what catalogue you follow, Aussies generally deal in Stanley Gibbons numbers, but if you buy off ebay, and trade across the oceans, perhaps you may consider using Scott, I changed over to Scott numbers which I really enjoy their style. If you would like to consider Scott, a fellow in the US chops up his Scott catalogues, and you can purchase Colombia pages for around $6 shipped. Cheers from Perth.

Welcome!!!!!!!!!!! Delighted to have you join us! My mother traveled to Australia during the 90s and had such a good time that we didn't think she was ever going to come home! Colombia - very cool! I'm really looking forward to seeing pics. How did you develop an interest in Columbia? I collect their neighbor, Venezuela - my sister lived there for 8 years. I have to get that off the shelf and work on it - you're motivating me! The catalog pages from the fella on ebay are excellent. I don't know how he dissects them so neatly, but they are always in perfect condition. And it is so nice working with just a few pages instead of a big, heavy, bulky book.

Welcome Tiredinsyd. This is a great group of people. Personally, I am glad that there is another Colombia collector in the group I have been collecting Colombia for over 20 years, the reason being that my wife is from Tunja, Boyaca. Another question is from whom are you buying or are you buying in auctions? Again, welcome to a great group. Jerry B

Hi firstfrog2013
This is just a pet peeve of mine. ColOmbia is spelled with an O and not a U. Probably typo SCADTA. Jerry B

Welcome to the forum Tiredinsyd. Looking forward to hearing and seeing more of your Colombia collection. I collect worldwide and really enjoy the South American countries. I find it challenging to find modern material from any of them. And by "modern" I mean anything after 1960.

Hi All, many thanks for the warm welcome.Rod 222, thanks for the tip on the catalogue i will pursue that , i found that my local library had the 2014 SG 6 volume series so i have that back at the house that has been good. Philatelia , i am new to this area but i have noticed distinct similarities between Venezula issues and Colombia. My fiancee is Colombian , so its a good way for me to learn about the country and create something nice as well. Jerry B and Firstfrog2013, i have a few issues i cant seem to identify in the masses i have accumulated, if you dont mind i will post them later in the Colombia area for your opinion? Being in Australia is a huge challenge to collect Colombian stamps, so i do a bit of internet buying but also i go to Colombia every 4-6 months . Was in Cuba 6 weeks ago and picked some nice ones up there as well. Looking forward to talking to all in the future:)

Hi tiredinsyd Being in Australia is a huge challenge to collect Colombian stamps, so i do a bit of internet buying but also i go to Colombia every 4-6 months . If you are in Bogota go to Alvaro Barriga's store near UniCentro. I have known him for over 20 years and he is a great person. I don't know whether you speak Spanish or not, but, he speaks several languages and his English is excellent. Also, Leo Temprano in the city. Ask Barriga if he has any 1980's specialized catalogs left and if so purchase one. Also at Temprano's purchase a 1980's specialized. It is well worth the money. In any case definitely purchase the Scott pages from Chirokmd. If you think it is hard in Australia, It is impossible in Atlanta Georgia. Fortunately my friend owns a stamp store and I do some part time work for him in breaking down collections so I get to see the Colombia first hand. I recently noticed that Castlerock stamps is in Medellin. His prices seem to be high. Barriga and Temprano prices are reasonable. Jerry B
