Fabulous story, Ryan. Thanks. Surprised to read an Aussie was in the lead, before collapsing. I am not surprised at the toughness of Spiridon (The water-carrier) Tony Jones Tony Robinson described this in his GB TV series amongst "The worst jobs in Medieval England" Try lugging 4 or 5 gallons of water up a slope.

Surprised to read an Aussie was in the lead, before collapsing. He should have taken a carriage ride like the guy who was originally 3rd! Just like Rosie Ruiz at the Boston Marathon (although I think she took a bus or something like that ...). Ryan

Hey, don't knock our Edwin Flack, Australia's first Olympian. He had won the 1500 metre and 800 metre races, and had a go at the marathon, although he hadn't raced further than 10 miles before. He also played in singles and doubles in the tennis. He was on an Australian stamp in 1996, celebrating the centenary of the modern Olympics.
Tony Robinson (aka Baldrick) hosted "The worst jobs in medieval England". Tony Jones is more a questions & answers sort of bloke.

thought I'd posted these, but as usual, my head is somewhere else.
Something a little more modern.
