I have found some great historical documents on the issuance of the colonial British Columbia & Vancouver Island stamps. I have posted the details on my website, which can be seen at blog.brcstamps.com/?p=262. Here is my copy of the first (and only) stamp produced for use in the then separate colonies in 1860. The "10" cancel was used at Williams Creek, near Barkerville, in the interior of British Columbia.

That was a very interesting letter BC. It's amazing how simply a new issue of stamps was achieved, I wonder if you have any further documentation?
It would be interesting to know how much the initial order cost.

Very nice, I have yet to acquire a B.C. or Vancouver Island stamp. But I am on the lookout...

I finally acquired the 10c Vancouver Island stamp at a decent price. Note the "1" numeral cancel. That is for New Westminster, which was the capital of British Columbia, before the merger of the two colonies. However, after the merger in 1866, Vancouver Island stamps were made valid for postage throughout the colony.

It appears I am not going to get the above stamp, and I am really choked!
The day I won the stamp (on eBay) I paid with Paypal. After a couple of weeks of no communication and nothing marked in the status area of the purchase, I got an message from the seller saying they forgot to mark it as shipped. No feedback was given either. They went on to say that if I have not received it, they will offer a full refund.
My winning bid was only $36, cat value is over $200. Maybe they just didn't want to give it to me at such a low cost?

You probably right,,, just gently inform them refund or no refund you are strongly leaning towards negative feedback,,, if they have the stamp they will probably mail it to you.

I am thinking about that Jack. Also the stamp is so unique with the placement of the cancel, centering, etc. it is very identifiable. If it ever appears on the internet again it will be easy to recognize. I am thinking about putting a "missing" poster of it on my website and all stamp forums.

Highly suspicious. Is it someone you have dealt with before? It appears they did not want to sell it for that price.

This is sad. If the seller has sold any items at all, this would be a lame excuse. I certainly would give negative feedback.

I don't mind saying that the seller is usstampco, the United States Stamp Company. They do have decent feedback and were around long before the internet, but I never did business with them before. I am not accusing them of anything yet. But I have been on eBay since 1999 and never had anything get lost, buying or selling. I have been looking for a decent affordable copy of that stamp for a long time.

BC, this certainly smells fishy. The only copy of that stamp I have seen for sale at anything less than $100 was badly faulty... like a corner was torn off and missing. I am really sad that the deal is going sour for you. I hope things work out for the better somehow.

Usstampco does have negative feedback on ebay similar to your complaint. Is their address and number 368 Bush St San Francisco, CA 94104 (415) 421-7398? If yes, why not call them, or maybe have one of our members in the SF area to do it for you? Hopefully there is a simple explanation.

Once the name and address were posted, it connected with me that this is the shop featured in this article: www.sfgate.com/entertainment/article/S-F-stamp-dealer-sticks-with-family-business-2289687.phpand that, based on a conversation I had with him on another board, Jim/jkjblue visited while he was with family in SF. I will just say, even though I sell very modestly, I am surprised at the stupid mistakes I can make sometimes, that I never thought I would. Perhaps this really was an error? But I can see the other side, too -- if there are negatives of a similar nature in the feedback, and, most indicatively, if the item is offered for sale by them a little later on. -- Dave

Wow! What a coincidence. I'm in San Francisco again visiting my daughter and my 1 year old grandson, and guess where I stopped in today? United States Stamp Company on Bush Street.
Warren, the owner, is very pleasant in manner, and it is fun indeed to check over the collection bins he has.
I have nothing ill to say about the operation, and my dealings with him and his daughter have all been fine.
Perhaps a call to him or his daughter who works there? 415-421-7398

In my opinion $36 on $200 is entirely reasonable, I most often work on around 25% of catalogue. I like you tendency to give a second chance. Stuff does happen, the big negative I see is the tardiness in replying, that is hard to justify. Good luck, remember there is always another stamp like it around the corner. Admin doing a test

Thanks for all your comments. I did find the US Stamp Company's phone number earlier, and I also noticed their website has disappeared (http://www.usstampco.com/). I will call them if I don't hear from them over the next couple of days.
Jkjblue, Warren was the one who sent me the email saying he believed the stamp "was lost in transit". Hey next time you are there, ask if they have in BC Vancouver Island stamps, lol.
Rod, while your 25% holds true for most stamps, it is not the case for some Canadian Provinces. I bid much higher than $36 for the stamp and was surprised I got it that low.

I forgot to give the results on the "missing" stamp. The dealer did give me a full refund, including postage.
So if anyone ever sees that exact stamp displayed anywhere on the internet, please let me know. That stamp with it's perforations and postmark is as unique as any snowflake in Manitoba.
Meanwhile, the hunt continues for a similar stamp...

Brian, if you create a specialised want search within ebay, you'll not only get any new listings, autoomatically, but you may happen upon your lost one. You probably are well aware of this route. Good Luck.

Don't really know what you can do about it but PLEASE keep us informed. While my missing lot was less distinct I believe I saw them broken into three lots and placed back on sale each with start price of my winning bid(Nova Scotia) for the combined lots.Think someone has figured out a way to use our money for like thirty days without interest??

Gee, if true, he/she has a miserable soul. I am clinging to the opinion there are more people that are good, than there are bad. Grand Funk Railroad 1970 [Child 8:] Good means to obey your mother and father, to do what the teacher says -- the things right. I feel miserable when I'm ... when I'm bad, I feel miserable on the inside but, on the outside, I just feel like I ... I feel now. [Child 9:] I think ... um, um ... there are more people that are bad than there are good. And, um ... if you're good, you'll live forever. And, if you're bad, you'll die when you die ...
