We have a few different themes, the main theme which is also the default is called The Stamp Forum 2.0 around 100 members use this theme. The font is in arial.
Another theme with 60 members using is called littleman it's called this because on the banner there is a wee man with a looking glass. This has a Times New Roman font
It's been brought to my attention that this is not the case and instead of TNR font it's coming up as arial. I have looked at littleman theme from my desktop and the font is in TNR I use IE and Firefox as browsers.
When I logged in using my iPhone and view the forum in classic (desktop) the only font I can see is Arial this is also the case when I view the forum using the WiiU .
My thoughts are that this could be happening because of the browser.
Does this make sense?

Something has changed overnight though and that is the size of the words 'Quote' and 'Edit' in the posts. They are much larger. I tried going to Google Chrome to see if it's the same but could not log-in !! Not sure why but either my password or user name are incorrect !! Londonbus1......never changes his name !! PS. The 'Create post' box is also in much larger print than it was yesterday. [Just seen it now when I went to post.]

Below screen captures let you see what I do on my computer running 64-bit Windows Vista and using IE9 as a browser. The upper capture is with the default theme (The Stamp Fourm 2/0; Arial font) and the lower is the littleman theme. Littleman has Times New Roman font and some of the "buttons" appear larger.

Hi The size of the buttons is due to the fact that one is keeping the same font point size and comparing Arial to Times New Roman. If one programs in .Net a form button may show truncated text (without autosize) when changing fonts. One just makes the font point size smaller to fit the text within the button bounds. If one sets an autosize button property then the buttons, at the same point size, will look different.
I probably confused the dickens out of people but that is the reason that the buttons look bigger. It is dependent on type face (font) and point size.

To web developer in me, it does....Very likely there's something in the cascade rules / process that kicks in the Arial-specific rule into higher importance than TNR under specific circumstances (such as mobile devices). It will likely fix when you modify the basic style to include !important directive to font declarations, for example: p {font-family:'Times New Roman' !important;} (And if it doesn't, then you need to check in which order the stylesheets are loaded, so that some other, later read style is not overriding what you're trying to accomplish). -k-

Getting closer... Google shows vast numbers of people suffering the same problem with Chrome One chap had only Polish ! I am not techy enough to "force changes" using an extension at the moment It may have come via an update, I'd like to stay with Chrome, but may have to jump to Firefox. I looked under Chrome settings, and the four choices of fonts show differing font styles, and in the example boxes they are ALL Arial.

Firefox was hopeless, I loaded it, and I cannot log on to The Stamp Forum, it redirects, in an endless loop. So ditched it.
I'll try a computer restore

Rodney, are you able to change your Forum Theme? This is under "Profile", then pressing the "Edit Profile" button, then clicking on the "Settings" tab.
Scroll about half-way down, and you'll see a little pull-down for Forum Theme choices.
Do you have:
"ProClassicV5 (by Smangii)" or "CN's theme"
If so, select one of those, click the "Save Account Settings" button near the bottom of the page, then reload a page or thread of the board.
For me, both of those themes show a serif font (which I believe is Times Roman).

I have view the different themes myself using different browsers and some themes are only showing Arial text. They mystery continues

Ok, thanks, Jack. Hang in there, Rodney! (By the way, I ordinarily use Firefox, so there's not a general conflict there. But I feel for you -- I've had computers suddenly go batcr*p crazy on me and do things that they never did before. Sometimes the System Restore was the only way to go.) ... (Sometimes a rock took care of it, too, but that required a more expensive and time-consuming restoration. )

If you haven't already done it, you might give restoring the Google Chrome settings to their original defaults a try (last option in the advanced settings listing).
If that doesn't work, a system restore may resolve the problem.
Hang in there...just keep telling yourself "this too shall pass!"

Jack... Can you state a specific theme and browser (with version number) combination that is not working? And throw in the screen/display resolution as well if you know it. I can then give it a quick whirl through emulator system to see if it's anything code-related (I just run a number of random browser combinations with 'little man' theme through emulator, and they all showed Times New Roman as they should). -k-

Hi
What is wrong with Arial? On a screen sans serif fonts are much cleaner.
When I was working on typesetting software most book publishers used Helvetica font on which Arial is based. I believe that Chrome default font is not Arial but Verdana.
I played around in Chrome for a bit and it seems that Chrome has a booboo. No matter what I tried I could not change the font.

Jerry B Nothing is wrong with Arial, it's a personal choice. I have had Times New Roman for 35 years, suddenly my fonts are hijacked. Its not worth a world war, but curious minds want to know. If you browse you may see this is happening to Chrome with regularity with Google apparently nonplussed. Although no longer used by The Times, Times New Roman is still frequent in book typography, particularly in mass-market paperbacks in the United States. Especially because of its adoption in Microsoft products, it has become one of the most widely used typefaces in history.

Ariel seems to work fine for me. I normally use the Georgia font because it plays nice with my editing software. I haven't had any issues like you describe Jack maybe it's an update issue?

When I was in college we had a whole lecture on fonts. It seems TNR is a easier to read font then Arial. in TNR the letters are slightly rounded of, this allows for a smooth flow while reading. In other words easy on the eyes. Arial is direct is a excellent font for titles and headers in a letter. It stands out. I like to read long body of text in TNR and when I read text in Arial, I do notice a different experience. When I was doing my internship the place did the safety reports in Comic sans, I had trouble just trying to read it. Here is a example of comic sans font, its a great font for something whimsical or if you want to catch the kids eyes its a fun fontThe Themes have the font set as default but certain browsers are not recognizing the fonts and only showing Ariel.

Well ! Bless my soul, Isn't that interesting.....in the extreme. I am replying to your post, I thought it hit the nail on the head, very well explained, I read a lot, and TNR flows, I find Arial childish in a way, and I lose the flow of the text. The WOW! moment came when I "quoted" your text, in my browser your original post was ALL Arial,....... in the quote, Suddenly your "comic sans" became apparent. This very definitely weird. PS: My apologies for assuming TSF was responsible for my Browser's recalcitrance.

Rod,
The next time you create a post, try selecting Times New Roman in the Font Face drop down menu before you start typing and see if your "glitch" resolves itself.
