My Father had these stamps filed in an envelope marked "Saudi Arabia." They have what appears to be the Syrian Republic's coat of arms as their central design feature but I can't find any corresponding listing in the Scott catalog and a Google image search didn't turn up anything useful. Can anyone comfirm what they are and, if so, can you also provide a catalog identifier?

Touché Steve. I checked Wikipedia, but they showed me the more recent Arms. Arms, flags and country names constantly changing in that part of the world. Like my fourth grade teacher once said (albeit about Mexico), they have a revolution every 24 hours. Took me over 40 years to get the joke.

I just found a great reference for these (see Andrew McClellan's Revenue Reverend site). It appears that the 5p grey blue has a Palestine Tax overprint (P211) and the 30p carmine is a general revenue stamp (R512 06)

Steve, is the 30p carmine not R512 ?

Rod, you're correct about the 30p carmine being R512. I have the file name correct but got it wrong when crafting the post. Thanks for catching my mistake!
