It is that time of year again! Like the U.S., Australia celebrates stamp collecting month during October and considers it helpful in encouraging budding young philatelists and sharing educational information on topics of interest. This year's stamp collecting month theme for Australia Post is endangered wildlife; they've produced a short video (4:50) showcasing the 7 animals under threat of extinction that are on their 2016 SCM stamp releases.

Thanks for putting this out there so to speak. This thread got me to checking around about what might be going on in my area for NSM. As it turns out the Baton Rouge Stamp Club will have an exhibit at a library branch during the month of October - not sure what the nearest post office will do, if anything. Mostly this thread got me to locate the one and only local stamp club, find out when and where the meetings are and at least add it to my calendar. Will I attend? That remains to be seen but at least this thread got me to at least go this far. Thanks!
In over two decades of collecting I've never interacted with another stamp collector other than dealers at the two bourses I've attended... besides online interaction that is.

In the U.S., and in other countries, collectors are celebrating Stamp Collecting Month in an effort to interest others in our hobby. I encourage each of you to consider what you might do to promote stamp collecting and introduce others to our Forum! You can read more about the history of the U.S. celebration HERE. The September 2017 issue of The American Philatelist also presents ideas on efforts that individuals might take in their respective localities.

One would think that Canada would get on the ball and do the same thing to try to promote the hobby. After all, we fill their coffers buying stamps that we will never use!
There are so many missed opportunities, and this would be a great one!

To remind, Stamp Collecting Month was first observed in the U.S. in 1981.

In keeping with this theme, today I had my local library post the below flyer on its bulletin board -- it may not bear fruit but I thought it was worth a try. Should anyone like a copy for similar use in their area, let me know by PM and I'll send a .pdf copy.
