jimwentzell - that's a fascinating story - about your fascination with Luxembourg. Makes me want to go there as well, and not only go there 'in my album'. Thanks for sharing! jon

brightonpete - Your page is looking really great non the less! Sometimes one just have to do with 'ad-hoc' solutions, cannot completely 'be governed by ones OCD', or one will make little headway. I like it!

I like it! Thanks for that, blaamand! I know about that, as I have erred on some sheets, and did it all over again. But there comes a point, for now anyway. I may re-do it all over later. Of course the back-side is also filled, so that makes it double the job!

Yeah, kind of annoying - but then again we are not machins, so these small blips will appear now and then. I'm gonna miss out something on my pages as well. I'm thinking that a few ad-hoc inserts here and there simply adds a little to the pages as it is an indication that these are personal, custom made sheets - small pieces of art. Artwork is not supposed to look perfect

This souvenir from April 14, 1945 was included with the covers. It is a bit damaged on top from someones greasy fingers. There is an reason to use tweezers all the time, if ever there was one! There is also a bit of a crease on the lower right. It includes two Grand Duchess Charlotte definitives (70¢ & 1-¾ francs - Michel: 356 & 362 / Stanley Gibbons: 446 & 452 / Scott: 223 & 227) along with an etiquette. The sheet itself was probably priced at the 20 francs of the etiquette. That would have been the donation to the poor of Luxembourg at the time. It was issued without gum, and is numbered as 17,678 out of 50,000. I doubt it was a real stamp that could be used for postage. Does anyone have any info on this? The reverse has "Märteswierk Letzeburg" (old Luxembourgish spelling) in the lower left corner of the etiquette, which is in all probability a printing house in the city of Luxembourg.

A recent purchase for a really good price. Sorry for the quality of images. My scanner and computer are not talking together tonight. it may be hard to tell from these images but with the naked eye, I see what appears to me as “ colour variations “. I have a Prifix/Michel 2015 catalog and also Scott. They do not list variations. I am looking for any info for sources/articles that may assist in identifying if these are true variations. Or have they changed due to age? I am ok for text in French and can have German text translated. Thanks for any insight. david dice shaker online

The 10c has 2 variations. There are a lot of forgeries of these on different paper & colors and later issues (65-75) with cut perfs

I am doing due diligence ,looking for forgeries as well. I may need to invest in a colour guide book the determine colours. I have been looking for these at a good price for years. I was surprised I won the auction.

I have a few of the earlies you can compare.. Most forgeries are easy to spot.
Look for letters 'RG' of 'LUXEMBOURG' are touching the frame, the 'G' of this word has a peculiar tail. There may be a trace of guidelines around the edge.
The letter 'D' of 'G.D' is almost touching the frameline left to it. The dot behind the 'D' of 'G.D.' is too close to the word 'DE'. Anything with 4 ring cancels. The 'e' of Luxembourg looks like an 'o' with a crossbar. You also need to check the crown and the lion's paws. Any that are cut very close to the frame - sometimes the date stamp gives it away. Then there are dozens of Fournier variations were you need to mainly check the top corner ornaments (Sc 7 & 23 below) and areas where shading is missing. Happy Hunting

Thanks for posting your images and the tips on spotting forgeries. Time to sit down with a good light and the magnifying glass. Eye strain anyone?

I have spent the week so far to set up my Luxemburg collection. Now I work with the duplicates, and I see that there is some that will fit fin into the collection. Looking at nice cancels/postmarks, prefer the small villages. Here are two nice ones, both was in a giveaway from Chris ( Beryllium Guy). The first one (Mi 85 from 1907) has a SON cancel from the smal village VIANDEN on the border to Germany. The second one (mi134 from 1921) has a nice cancel from the main town ( I suppose) LUXEMBOURG GARE. But the motive on the second stamp is VIANDEN, as the cancel on the first stamp Both are sliding right into my collection and replacing the stamps sitting there

But the motive on the second stamp is VIANDEN, as the cancel on the first stamp I'm not sure what you mean by that... Luxembourg Gare would be the main train station, would it not?

Didn't know Gare was station What I ment with the motive on the second stamp, was the motive - what is pictured on the stamp.
Same village as the cancel on the first stamp.

I have about 200 stamps from Luxembourg, 50% classics and the 1960-1990 did come from a friend, Pete brightonpete, if my memory does not fail me . I have the classics because of my late dad's buying collections in the 60s - I never truly tried to fill the spaces (yet) !! Love your page, tobben63....1 space not filled - did not check what stamp it was René

I had posted this photo earlier, but in the 'Whatcha Stamping' thread. This is the stamp that got me interested in collecting Luxembourg. I won it in an auction & have continued ever since. A note in Scott's states that the brown error stamp was never put on sale. How do they know that? But they say that some are known to be postally used. That note makes it look like a favour error, if you ask me! But I do like this series of Grand Duke Adolphe.

The complete Grand Duchess Charlotte set from 1948, SG 513a-524. I particularly like the background which has a certain Penny Black-like appearance.

I finally decided to mount the stamps in the year packs I bought from Luxembourg Post. That was before I decided to cut off in the 90's. I bought 2005, 7, 8 & 9. 2006 was sold out. Here is the first page of 2007...
In doing this, I'll run out of my favourite green paper. My supplier has closed down unfortunately. I did find some other green paper, but it's no where near the same...

Hello stamp friends. Hope you are all well. I wonder if someone can help me find a Luxembourg new issue dealer in the United States. I would like to get the stamp and FDC for the recent issue (March 18, 2022) commemorating the centennial of the death of Wilhelm Voigt "Captain von Kopenick." I tried using the Post Luxembourg website but had credit card issues. I think it is just a fascinating story and goes to show what we can learn from stamp collecting. Thanks in advance.

In today's mail. A nice selection of Grand Duke Adolf 1883-91 Most important 5 Francs, but also a nice37½ centimes and 2½ francs with a superb cancel. The 25 centimes has a perfin, need to investigate that one. Purchased on Delcampe. Lot of good stuff there.
