Hi there. I am new to the board. I collected stamps a little when I was a kid and for this reason I was recently left a collection of Canadian stamps from a family friend who passed away.

I did not know this person well and am not really interested in collecting in this area (I have too many other active collections...) and am curious if these stamps have value and are salable.

I have poked around a little on-line and see that some of the sheets in the collection do have some value but I am looking for a realistic assessment- can they actually be sold, are the sought after, is eBay the best route? kijiji? dealers?

I would really appreciate any insight. Here is a complete listing of what is in the collection:

Modern Canada which is what these are considered, is selling at 60-75% of face on a good day.Large pieces are usually not desired by collectors they are very hard to store and display in collections.Still with the volume you have a good chunk of change present.If you research a bit there may be varieties present which would change the ball game a little bit.Suggest you list them as one lot with total face value listed and start at 50% of face they may sell to be used as postage.And welcome aboard we like collectors here.What else is in your collection?

I know many of the sheets listed above are not worth more than a fraction of their face value but I believe there are some that are more special and worth more. Any thoughts?

I collect tools, pens, toys, pond boats, cameras, photographs.... haha. And on and on and on. Maybe it is easier to say that one of the few things I do not collect at the moment is stamps.

Maybe hang on to them, you might get the stamp bug down the road and resent that you got rid of them.

As for what they are worth take a look at ebay and see what those sheets are selling for that will give you a real world price. I often pick up sheets at 20% of face.

By the way are you in canada

The only ones you listed with any interest would be the dollar and fifty cent sheets.All those five cent stamps while nice to look at are fairly common run of the mill.Think of it this way if you WERE collecting how many of each stamp in this era would you tie up your money in ? Most collectors are quite content with one stamp of each and when you then have it you don't normally buy another.There's the problem with your sheets even a dealer would have a serious problem trying to get rid of that stock.Supply and demand is present even in collecting, in fact it is a big factor in determining market values.If there is no demand there is no value to it.We try our best here to help and welcome your questions and thoughts.Consider hanging on to the stamps they will ALWAYS be worth face value as postage even fifty years from now.

My stamp shop Dealer buys them for 20-30% on the dollar Face value and sells them for 60-70% face value depending on what kind of mood he is in. That's not a very good return. If somebody complains he just politely tells them to use them for postage then.

I Collect U.S Singles, Se-Tenants and souvenir sheets and Canadian Singles.

well the good news about having full sheets is that you probably have some of the varieties which are sometimes worth a little bit more money.

(Prices are according to 2012 catalogue)

For example:
#496 has a "flycatcher" variety at position 41 which is valued at $40 for NH-VF.
#492 has three different varieties at positions 41(d) "line from knee", 36(d) "bird in sky" and 5(a) "low moon" which are each valued at $25 for NH-VF.

And #411 is cataloguing for $15 each in NH-VF.

Whether you can realistically get these prices is a different story.

I collect worldwide but specialize in Canada and Trinidad & Tobago.
