I seen this on top of a post card pile in n antique shop so i grabbed it. Can anyone tell me about it please? It's full of B&W souvenir cards.
I'm actually more curious about that purple handstamp on the front than the actual souvenir packet. Thank you in advance. -Jeff

Done a quick Google, there is a discrepancy between Wiki and the postmark on the elevation height by 182 feet, although can't give you specifics on the postmark itself other than what I dug up myself is that its a special cachet for the D & R.G.W Rail Road.
some on ebay, I have seen others through auctioneers but some wild prices they vary from $2 - $150.
Earliest example I have found is from 1929 and latest 1948 though there maybe other dates going around.

Thank you. I suppose I could find a round-about date by I.D.-ing the stamp. I know it's a perf. 11 so I'm guessing it's a US Scott #525 (1918-1920) although it does appear to be a flat-plate printing (I can feel the ridges but of course that's not definitive proof by any standards...lol) but of course, I'm never that lucky! lol Thank you. 1847usa.com/washfrank/design3/d31p11.htmHere is a cropped image of it if anyone can add a little more light on it?

I believe it's a rotary press stamp so no big dollar stamp, Plus it wasn't sent through the mail so purely philatelic in nature. That's my take on it anyway.

I think it's a flat plate, and the only way to decide between 424 and 462 is to look for a watermark.

It's a Scott #498 flat plate. The marking is a non postal marking and, as wt1 pointed out from the D.& R.G.R.R. - the abbreviation for "Denver and Rio Grande Rail Road".

When I was laying the scan of your stamp out to measure it against known scans of 424 and 462, I double checked the perfs, and your stamp's perfs lined up with the perf 10s. Of course you have the advantage of having the stamp in hand... making your measurements the most accurate. That said, if my manipulations of the stamp, which caused the frame of the image, and perfs to line up, were in error, then the frame of the image is in error, making the stamp more likely to be a rotary.
Just sayin'.... [Broken image link removed]

OK well you might be correct- I'm getting conflicting information on this. I'll have to dig it out (after the Dead Files is over) and re perf gauge it.
It seems to me that these particular issues you can just count the teeth to get the perforation count because of the size of the stamp. I could be mistaken but more to come in the morning. -Jeff
Good night friends!
OK, it's CERTAINLY a PERF 10. no question about it. I measured it twice. Almost certainly a rotary print specially that it's too well centered than the usual flatplate

I just measured it and it seems to be just a tad more than 22mm. so close but so far..so must be a Scott #424 or a Scott #462. I'm not that curious to lift it to find out and to make matters a bit worse the regular catalog and and the specialized cat don't list the quantity printed so, since it's not an expensive stamp anyway so "big whoop"...lol I quit on it!

I thought I'd scan both sides quickly as I only have a little time this morning. I'll scan the cards inside as time permits. -Jeff

Hi Jeff!
The "cancel" is definitely icing on the cake; overall a very nice item that tells a story, and 25 cents way back then was a pretty sizeable amount for a few postcards! You could probably go a whole lifetime without ever seeing another one. Deltiologists love cards that tell a story.....and stamp collectors do too so it's a "crossover" item that appeals to both type collectors.
So, Jeff, curious minds are wanting to know....
Did you pay the $2.00 or $3.50 price penciled in, or none of the above?
