Never seen one of these. It has the ease of use that a postcard offers, but with lots more room for a longer message.

According to my Scott specialized catalog (2007) this is a Scott #US293, 1886 2¢ green, entire. Is that correct? It's torn but I pieced it back together for the scan so I know it's not valuable or anything but I have never had one before and find it fascinating. A good friend on another board sent it to me and I'm curious as to what is says and why these was used? Any information would be greatly appreciated! Thank you in advance for any information you can provide. -Jeff
Yes it is. Sc #U293 US1 2c green entire (letter sheet) Inscribed "series 4" 41 perforations at top CV $27.50 $17 2004 The first "letter sheets" were designed and used by New South Wales, Australia 1838 Tasmanian Letter sheets are extremely valuable. A business Header from your addressee.......... (I hope he secured a job) PS: The Punch holes match in both items ...........I'd suggest his letter was punched and kept on file at India Alkali Works.

Does it look like the letter was sealed with a GB stamp?

Does it look like the letter was sealed with a GB stamp? I doubt it Admin, letter sheets did not work like that. They have a gummed edge around the perforations sides (That are removed when opening) so the contents of the letter are sealed. I think that GB stamp is a randomly adhered, later in its journey through life. Update: Here is an unused one.........looking at the flap, I think now, you may be right, perhaps the sender used it to seal the flap. Well done you

Rod I think it's safe to say he secured a job...lol Also the product can still be bought to this day (although, I've never heard tell of it?) Note their featured product is "Savogran". Eventually the company took that name and is still in business today! www.savogran.com/history.html

Why thank you Rod. So do you think it was just an adherence along the way or part of the letter sheet?

As a new arrival to the States he would not have any use for GB stamps. He might have had a few stamps in his letter writing kit, felt that the stationery was not very secure and decided to use a stamp from the homeland. Also would help get his letter noticed aswell, you have to pull out all the tricks when applying for a job

Maybe it was "just a lady", and not a "Queen"...
Haven't you heard the news? The Royal Family's claim to the throne has just been thrown (no pun) into question via a DNA study! www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/theroyalfamily/11268218/Richard-III-DNA-shows-British-Royal-family-may-not-have-royal-bloodline.html
Excerpt: "When the skeleton of Richard III was discovered in a car park in Leicester in 2012, archaeologists knew it was a momentous find. But little did they realise that it might expose other skeletons — those in the cupboard of the British aristocracy, and may even call into question the blood line of the Royal family. In order to prove that the bones really were Richard III's, scientists needed to take a DNA sample and match it to his descendants. Genetic testing through his maternal DNA proved conclusively that the body was the king's. However, when they checked the male line — the unnamed descendants of Henry Somerset, the 5th Duke of Beaufort — they discovered something odd. The DNA did not match Richard's, meaning that at some point in history an adulterous affair had broken the paternal chain. "
