I believe this label to be from a Booklet pane. Can members suggest a Cat# please, Year? Cannot find it on ebay. Does a PHQ card exist for this one as well? Thanks

Ah! Right. Thankyou. Fabulous link. Once again, Ebay has led astray. I have the label of the Supermarine Spitfire (Mitchell : Designer) , and my understanding, from Ebay, there was a PHQ card existing. Your link explains it as "An ordinary Card" not listed as a PHQ The Spitfire and the Queen's 70th that exist as postcards, are listed as D10 and D11 respectively. I can only assume they arrived late, and would fail to gain "Maximum Concordance" (First Day of Issue) to exist as a true "Maximum Card"

One of the many adventures had over spring break was a trip to my favorite thrift/recycle store. austincreativereuse.org/ If you are ever in the Austin area, enter with an open mind and exit with an armload of treasure. While I was looking for some school supplies I stumbled on a stack of 13 thematic stamp sets that were hiding in a dusty corner, and the store owner gave them to me for $1 apiece. I guess I am collecting Great Britain now! I will post scans of the other 11 when either Photobucket or my patience decide to cease their hissy fit.

My current favorite: The Peter Rabbit stamp in the bottom left brings back a lot of memories from when I was little(er). I used to have a Peter Rabbit stuffed animal that had a music box built into it, and I played thing until it wore out. I think it got lost in one of the moves though. Well, now I have a stamp!

Pretty cool stuff, Edith. I am amazed that you got this material from a resale/thrift store. I guess it's true that you never know what you may find in one of those places!
My personal favorite of the stamps shown in your post is the cat writing with the quill pen. I wonder what story that is supposed to represent.... do you know?

The stamp depicts "Orlando the Marmalade Cat" from Kathleen Hale's children's book series of the same name. They look like fun reads! www.goodreads.com/series/82491-orlando-the-marmalade-cat

Here is another fun one : This set was issued on the third of September, 1996, to commemorate fifty years of children's television. Does anyone else here have fond memories of the Dangermouse cartoons?

Thanks, Edith! Orlando the Marmalade Cat, you say? Never heard of him before, but I will have to check it out.
Sorry, but I also never heard of Dangermouse. Guess I have led a sheltered life....

Yes, I had never heard of Orlando either. Just another adventure in philately I suppose! As for Dangermouse, no, many people I know in the States have never heard of it. My grandparents were German and lived in Germany. They used to send us kids parcels with german candy, presents, etc., and any cartoons they could find in English. This included some cartoons from, of course, Germany, but also ones from the States, Canada, France, and some from Great Britain. So it is not that you have led a sheltered life, but that I have family that lives on the other side of the globe.

Does anyone else here have fond memories of the Dangermouse cartoons? I do. But then I'm from the UK. I remember all of those characters, apart from Muffin the Mule which pre dates me, but have seen the odd re-run. Talking of mouses; I very much miss Pinky and the Brain. I thought this was one of the best animations ever made. I've been trying to get the series on DVD, but the price over here is astronomical.

I don't think we ever got more than two or three episodes of that one, but the crazy mouse and the genius mouse were hilarious! The prices here aren't much better. $20 apiece for volumes one and two, and $60 for volume three! A little fun fact for y'all: My nickname is actually mouse. My parents don't even remember how I got it, but it stuck. Therefore, while my grandparents sent Popeye and superhero cartoons for my brothers, they sent me any mouse-related cartoon they could find. I am also pretty sure I have seen every Tom and Jerry ever created up until 2012.

I have the label of the Supermarine Spitfire (Mitchell : Designer) ....... Here's another from the same theme of booklets with commemorative labels; the Berlin Airlift. Nice to have one with the stamp pane on cover. Shame about that horrible parcel tape.

Forgot to mention, last night I went and bought Volume 1 (4 DVD's) of Pinky and the Brain. I bit the bullet and paid equivalent of US$25, incl carriage. As these prices have not fluctuated in at least 5 years plus the fact it was a Region 2 PAL format (rare as hen's wisdom teeth) and not a US region 1 NTSL format AND it was the last one; I succumbed.
So it's Lila's fault. She made me think about it.

Happy first day of April, everyone! This set of 5 stamps was released on May 14, 1995 in sheets of 100. All of the stamps depict photographs of nature sculptures made by Andy Goldsworthy. The names of the sculptures, from left-to-right, are: 1. "Dandelions - Collected on the way to Work - Laid Around a Carefully Made Hole." 2. "Sweet Chestnut Leaves - Held with Thorns." 3. Garlic Leaves - Creased, Folded, Bent - Held to the Ground With Thorns." 4. "Hazel Leaves - Two Greens." 5. "Spring Grass - Fresh Green Blades - White Stems - Laid Around a Hole."

I like that Queen Victoria set very much - British engraved stamps were becoming less common by this time, so it's always nice to come across one of these in a pile of kiloware.

Man, I love these QEII era commemoratives. How the heck do I get my hands on more of them here in the States? I hate that I have to wait for the local stamp show in February to get more for my album. And please don't tell me Ebay. I've heard so many horror stories that I'll never buy anything from there.

...And please don't tell me Ebay. I've heard so many horror stories that I'll never buy anything from there. I think you are selling yourself short by not considering eBay. If anything you purchase is incorrectly described or you do not receive the shipment you will get your money back. I've been buying on ebay for several years now and have yet to have a horror story to tell. Hipstamp (previously Bidstart) is another online platform where you can acquire much of what you are looking for. You might also be able to find some of your wants on Stamps2Go.

I've never had a problem that hasn't been resolved on Ebay purchasing or selling. I've got a rating of almost 5,000 positive feedbacks for transactions. I purchase stamps quite often from Ebay and from Delcampe (a Belgium collector's site with many stamps from European sellers)

I'll have to look into the other sites besides Ebay. Can't hurt to look around.

A Stampex Smiler sheet from 2019. I feel that the labels depicting famous stamps actually let down what is otherwise a beautiful sheet.

This special stamp sheet and medallion pack, probably produced by the Royal Mail, contains a relatively rare version of the 150th Anniversary of the Penny Black miniature sheet issued in 1990. Only discovered when someone's pack disintegrated, the miniature sheet is larger than the version generally available so as to fit securely in the frame. Limited to 600 only. [Sorry about the slightly out of focus scans but the items are recessed in the pack]
